The round can include a plurality of sensors for detecting the RF signals. The second received RF signal may be a multi-path signal having been reflected off of the earth's surface or another object on the earth's surface. The altitude of the round can be determined using the known altitude of the airborne platform, the delay of time between the first and second received signals, and the speed of light.

A method and a system for indoor positioning within a wireless mesh-type network can be applied where a plurality of access points are located in an indoor space. According to the method, any one access point of the plurality of access points receives a request for indoor positioning transmitted by a portable device, wherein the request comprises received signal strength indications (RSSIs) measured and collected by the portable device. The access point compares the measured and collected RSSIs of the request to RSSIs stored in a fingerprinting database to determine a fingerprinting position using a closest match method and the access point provides, to the portable device, the determined fingerprinting position.

A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.

Supporting a selection of a floor

A mobile device collects data, which enables a generation of a radio map for a site. The collection comprises detecting at least one indication of a floor, at which a user is located, in a user input; and performing measurements on radio signals to obtain for each of a plurality of locations of the site a set of characteristics of radio signals. The mobile device receives, during the collection of data, data from a barometer, verifies a most recent indication of a floor in a user input based on changes in the data from the barometer, and outputs a warning to the user in the case of a discrepancy. The mobile device associates each set of characteristics with a floor indicated by a user. The mobile device provides the sets of characteristics and their association with a floor for a generation a radio map supporting a positioning at the site.
