An autonomous vehicle (AV) has an electromagnetic (EM) sensor that captures EM sensor data about the environment. The captured EM data is processed to generate an EM map of the environment. The EM data may also be used to identify EM characteristics of the environment. The EM map may be used to modify control and operation of the AV and may also be used to signal conditions to another system managing AVs, to correct localization of the AV, identify anomalies in the environment, and modify a previous signature EM map.

Checking the health of radio model data

An apparatus obtains results of measurements, which are performed by a mobile device on signals of communication nodes. The measurement results for each of the communication nodes include a signal strength related value and an identification of the communication node. The apparatus obtains for one of the communication nodes a stored indication of a location and a stored signal strength related value and determines a difference between measured and stored signal strength related values. The apparatus estimates the position of the mobile device based on the results of measurements and on obtained stored radio model data. In the case that the determined difference for the at least one communication node falls short of a predetermined threshold, the apparatus determines a distance between estimated position and indicated location for the at least one communication node, as an indication of a health state of stored radio model data.

An apparatus or an add-on module for a, in particular mobile, device, is disclosed. In an embodiment, the device to be localized or the add-on module uses a measuring unit to measure, via suitable sensors, a local electromagnetic field distribution generated by a given infrastructure. An instantaneous position of the add-on module or of the device equipped therewith is then determined by comparing the measured field distribution with a specified map. In order to facilitate tracking of the add-on module or of the device, the measured field distribution and/or the determined position can be sent via a wireless data connection to a server unit.

SELF-CORRECTION OF A RADIO MAP

A method, apparatus and system are provided for determining displacement information for a radio node. In a method respective position information is obtained that is indicative of a position of a respective radio node. The method determines the position of the respective radio node based on respective radio measurements of further respective radio nodes surrounding the respective radio node and on further respective radio measurements gathered by the respective radio node. The respective signals are sent by the one or more respective radio nodes surrounding the respective radio node. The method also determines displacement information based on the respective position information that is obtained and the determined position of the respective radio node. The displacement information is indicative of a displacement of the respective radio node if the determined position of the respective radio node differs from the position of the respective radio node represented by the obtained position information.
