Multimission and multispectral sonar

A survey system including a multibeam echo sounder having a single projector array and a single hydrophone array constructs a multi-signal message and deconstructs a corresponding multi-signal echo to substantially simultaneously perform multiple survey missions.

Driving support apparatus

A driving support apparatus according to the present disclosure includes a memory and a hardware processor coupled to the memory and a sound wave sensor. The hardware processor is configured to select, as a transmission and reception scheme, either a pulse scheme or a spread spectrum modulation scheme, and control the sound wave sensor with the selected transmission and reception scheme. When the spread spectrum modulation scheme is selected as the transmission and reception scheme, the hardware processor causes the sound wave sensor to successively transmit and receive sound waves by using the spread spectrum modulation scheme.

A target detection and/or high resolution RF system is provided herein in which the resolution of a legacy target angle detection (direction of arrival) system is improved without any change to the existing hardware of the legacy target detection system. Rather, the target detection and/or high resolution RF system can apply virtual aperture postprocessing to reflected signals to achieve improvements in the detection of one or more targets.

TIME-VARYING TEMPLATE FOR IMPROVED SHORT-DISTANCE PERFORMANCE IN CODED ULTRASONIC RANGING
20210156995 · 2021-05-27 ·

Ultrasonic ranging systems and methods that emit coded bursts and correlate transduced acoustical echoes of the bursts with a receive template characterizing a burst code to determine time-of-flight information use receive templates of time-variable length to improve short-range object detection. The template length is based on a time index measured from the start of the burst emission. The detection can account for a dead zone of transducer ringing following a burst. A time-variable gain that is also based on the time index can be applied to the correlated signal. The length and gain can be adjusted with reduced temporal frequency to reduce computation cost.

A control device includes: an object detector to output a signal for causing a transmitter to transmit an object detection ultrasonic wave, obtain an output signal from a receiver, and detect an object; an abnormality detector to perform, as an abnormality detection process, outputting a signal for causing the transmitter to transmit an abnormality detection ultrasonic wave whose transmission time is longer than that of the object detection ultrasonic wave, obtaining, from the receiver, an output signal in a period in which the abnormality detection ultrasonic wave is to be received as a direct wave, and detecting an abnormality in the transmitter or receiver when no signal of the direct wave is included; and a determiner to obtain a speed of a vehicle including the transmitter and receiver, and when the speed is not greater than a threshold, cause the abnormality detector to start the abnormality detection process.

Multimission and multispectral sonar

A survey system including a transmitter, receiver, projector array and hydrophone array transmits and receives sound waves to perform one or more survey missions.

AD HOC POSITIONING OF MOBILE DEVICES USING NEAR ULTRASOUND SIGNALS

An approach for providing a lower cost real time location system in less trafficked areas of a building. This approach uses on-board audio capabilities of a mobile device to receive a room response trace resulting from a self-generated acoustic signal. By comparing the room response trace to a modeled room response trace, the location of the mobile device is determined.

Apparatus and methods for detection of objects using broadband signals

Broadband signal transmissions may be used for object detection and/or ranging. Broadband transmissions may comprise a pseudo-random bit sequence or a bit sequence produced using, a random process. The sequence may be used to modulate transmissions of a given wave type. Various types of waves may be utilized, pressure, light, and radio waves. Waves reflected by objects within the sensing volume may be sampled. The received signal may be convolved with a time-reversed copy of the transmitted random sequence to produce a correlogram. The correlogram may be analyzed to determine range to objects. The analysis may comprise determination of one or more peaks/troughs in the correlogram. Range to an object may be determines based on a time lag of a respective peak.
