OPENING AND CLOSING DETECTION SENSOR
20200109970 · 2020-04-09 · ·

An opening and closing detection sensor of the present invention includes a fixed base, a moving base, an optical fiber, and a moving member. The moving base is disposed so as to be movable relative to the fixed base. The optical fiber includes an FBG part where a Bragg wavelength varies responding to an interval between the fixed base and the moving base. The moving member moves between a first position corresponding to either one of an opened state or a closed state of an object and a second position corresponding to the other state. The moving member includes a locking part. The locking part abuts on the moving base between a third position located between the first position and the second position, and the second position, thereby moving the moving base together with the moving member, and moving the moving base in a direction separated from the fixed base.

Disclosed are an apparatus for measuring a displacement using a fiber Bragg grating sensor, which is applied to a strain sensor using the fiber Bragg grating sensor, and a method of controlling sensitivity and durability of the same. The apparatus includes: a case forming an external appearance; third and fourth optical fibers having mutually different numbers of strands and installed in the case while being spaced apart from each other by a predetermined interval; and a connection unit installed between the third and fourth optical fibers and fixed at a predetermined position by tension applied to the third and fourth optical fibers, wherein the fiber Bragg grating sensor is installed to one selected from the pair of optical fibers having mutually different numbers of strands, so that measurement sensitivity and durability are controllable.

MULTICHANNEL OPTICAL COUPLER

The optical fiber coupler array can be capable of providing a low-loss, high-coupling coefficient interface with high accuracy and easy alignment between a plurality of optical fibers (or other optical devices) with a first channel-to-channel spacing, and an optical device having a plurality of closely-spaced waveguide interfaces with a second channel-to-channel spacing, where each end of the optical fiber coupler array can be configurable to have different channel-to-channel spacing, each matched to a corresponding one of the first and second channel-to-channel spacing. Advantageously, the refractive indices and sizes of both inner and outer core, and/or other characteristics of vanishing core waveguides in the optical coupler array can be configured to reduce the back reflection for light propagating from the plurality of the optical fibers at the coupler first end to the optical device at the coupler second end, and/or vice versa.

System and Method for Monitoring Fault Conditions in a Pan Line of a Longwall Mining System

A system for monitoring a condition of a pan line associated with a longwall mining system includes multiple pan segments arranged in a successive manner. Adjacently located pan segments are moveably coupled by an interconnecting joint. An underside of each pan segment defines an opening whose axis is parallel to a plane of the associated pan segment. The system also includes a fiber optic shape sensing system that has a fiber optic cable disposed along the multiple pan segments and located within the opening of each pan segment. A controller coupled to the fiber optic cable detects a shape of the fiber optic cable, identifies a position of each pan segment based on the detected shape of the fiber optic cable, and determines if a fault exists in the interconnecting joints between adjacently located pan segments based on the identified positions of respective ones of the adjacently located pan segments.

OSS GUIDING AND MONITORING SYSTEMS, CONTROLLERS AND METHODS

An OSS guiding and monitoring system employs an interventional device (40) including an integration of a OSS sensor (20) and one or more interventional tools (30), the OSS sensor (20) for generating shape sensing data informative of a shape of the OSS sensor (20) as the interventional device (40) is navigated within an anatomical region. The OSS guiding and monitoring system further employs an OSS guiding controller (90) for controlling a reconstruction of a shape of the interventional device (40) within the anatomical region responsive to a generation of the shape sensing data by the OSS sensor (20), and an OSS monitoring controller (100) for controlling a monitoring of a degree of folding and/or a degree of twisting of the interventional device (40) within the anatomical region.
