The 8 channels with a channel spacing of 200 GHz have the minimum adjacent channel crosstalk of less than 27 dB, and the overall size is within 300230 m.sup.2. In the multiplexer, the overall integration size of the device is reduced by an order of magnitude.

Two-dimensional optical phased array

The first side includes a lens array optically coupled to a SiP chip and the second side includes a connector having a plurality of planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) optically coupled to another lens array.

WAVEGUIDE TYPE OPTICAL INTERFEROMETER CIRCUIT

A dependency of a characteristic of an optical circuit on an optical signal intensity occurring due to input of a high intensity optical signal is reduced in a waveguide type optical interferometer circuit. The waveguide type optical interferometer circuit is a waveguide type optical interferometer circuit formed in one plane, and includes an input waveguide, an optical branching unit, an optical coupling unit, an output waveguide, and optical waveguides having different lengths from each other and being interposed between the optical branching unit and the optical coupling unit. A light intensity compensating region is formed on an optical path extending from the optical branching unit to the optical coupling unit, and the light intensity compensating region is formed by using a light intensity compensating material having a light intensity coefficient different from a light intensity coefficient of an optical distance relative to an incident light intensity in the optical path.

Single mode waveguide with an adiabatic bend
10838146 · 2020-11-17 · ·

A single mode waveguide with a straight portion and a curved portion, the curved portion having the shape of an adiabatic bend. The single mode waveguide has a curved portion that is shaped according to an adiabatic bend, with a curvature that varies continuously, and that vanishes at a point at which the curved portion is contiguous with a straight portion of the waveguide. The absence of curvature discontinuities avoids the coupling, within the waveguide, of optical power from a fundamental mode into a higher order mode and the curvature of the curved portion results in attenuation of optical power, in higher order modes, that may be coupled into the waveguide at either end.

Photonic imaging array

A multi-beam optical phased array on a single planar waveguide layer or a small number of planar waveguide layers enables building an optical sensor that performs much like a significantly larger telescope. Imaging systems use planar waveguides created using micro-lithographic techniques. These imagers are variants of phased arrays, common and familiar from microwave radar applications. However, there are significant differences when these same concepts are applied to visible and infrared light.
