APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR HYBRID OPTO-ELECTRICAL MULTICHIP MODULE
The present disclosure relates to a hybrid opto-electrical module apparatus. The apparatus may have a module substrate having a plurality of electrically conductive circuit traces for carrying electrical signals, and at least one waveguide element for carrying optical signals. A waveguide substrate is in optical communication with the waveguide element. A transducer is supported on the waveguide substrate and in electrical communication with the circuit traces. The waveguide substrate has at least one three dimensional (3D) waveguide formed within its interior volume for routing optical signals between the waveguide element and the transducer. A first optical wirebond interfaces the waveguide element to the 3D waveguide, and a second optical wirebond interfaces the 3D waveguide to the transducer.
APPARATUS FOR MONITORING FIBER SIGNAL TRAFFIC AT A FIBER CONNECTOR
A system for monitoring a signal on an optical fiber includes a fiber optic connector having a housing couplable to a receptacle. An optical fiber that transmits a first optical signal has first fiber core at least partially surrounded by a cladding and has a first end terminating proximate the housing. The first optical signal is transmitted along the first fiber core. An optical tap has a first tap waveguide arranged and is configured to receive at least part of the first optical signal as a first tap signal. The first tap waveguide comprises an output port for the first tap signal for directing the tap signal to a detector unit. In other embodiments, a detector unit detects light from the optical signal that is propagating along the fiber cladding.
WAVEGUIDE TUBE HAVING A NANO PLATING LAYER AND WAVEGUIDE TUBE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE SAME
A waveguide tube includes a first waveguide block, a second waveguide block and a nano plating layer. The first waveguide block has a first combination surface. A middle of one side of the first combination surface is recessed inward to form a first waveguide recess. The second waveguide block is fastened with the first waveguide block. The second waveguide block has a second combination surface disposed corresponding to the first combination surface. A middle of one side of the second combination surface is recessed inward to form a second waveguide recess. The first combination surface and the second combination surface are attached with each other, so the first waveguide recess is combined with the second waveguide recess to form a waveguide space. The nano plating layer is plated on outer surfaces of the first waveguide block and the second waveguide block which are completed being assembled.
DETECTOR COMPRISING A WAVEGUIDE
A semiconductor detector (100) for electromagnetic radiation within a wavelength range is disclosed, comprising a first waveguide portion (110), a funnel element (130) configured to funnel incident electromagnetic radiation into a first end (112) of the first waveguide portion, and a second waveguide portion (120) extending in parallel with the first waveguide portion. The second waveguide portion is coupled to the first waveguide portion and configured to out-couple electromagnetic radiation from the first waveguide portion, within a sub-range of the wavelength range. Further, a photodetector (140) including a photoactive layer (144) is arranged at a second end (114) of the first waveguide portion and at an end (124) of the second waveguide portion, and configured to separately detect electromagnetic radiation transmitted through and exiting the first waveguide portion and the second waveguide portion.
Imaging apparatus and method for imaging an object
An imaging apparatus comprises: (i) an illumination waveguide configured to propagate light by total internal reflection, wherein an evanescent field illuminates an object in close relation to the illumination waveguide; (ii) an array of light-sensitive areas arranged on a common substrate with the illumination waveguide for detecting light from the object; and (iii) a controller configured to control forming of an interference pattern in the illumination waveguide, wherein the interference pattern comprises at least one element of constructive interference for selectively illuminating a portion of the object, the at least one element having a dimension with a size in a range of 100 nm-10 m; wherein the controller is configured to sequentially change the interference pattern in relation to the object such that different portions are illuminated and light from different portions is sequentially detected.

An optical fiber that transmits a first optical signal has first fiber core at least partially surrounded by a cladding and has a first end terminating proximate the housing. The first optical signal is transmitted along the first fiber core. An optical tap has a first tap waveguide arranged and is configured to receive at least part of the first optical signal as a first tap signal. The first tap waveguide comprises an output port for the first tap signal for directing the tap signal to a detector unit. In other embodiments, a detector unit detects light from the optical signal that is propagating along the fiber cladding.

A dual polarized waveguide device includes a first waveguide that defines a first linear signal propagation path, a second waveguide that defines a second linear signal propagation path that is parallel to the first linear signal propagation path, and a polarization selective coupling interface coupling the first and second waveguides, the polarization selective coupling interface being configured to enable horizontally polarized signals to pass between the first and second linear propagation paths and prevent vertically polarized signals from passing between the first and second linear propagation paths.
