As an electro-optical device, a liquid crystal device includes micro lenses ML each of which is provided as a light-gathering element for the corresponding one of pixels, and further includes a light-shielding portion. Red (R), green (G), and blue (B) beams enter the micro lens ML at angles different from one another. The light-shielding portion partitions off a first opening portion corresponding to a sub pixel, a second opening portion corresponding to a sub pixel, and a third opening portion corresponding to a sub pixel from one another. When the width of the first opening portion in the predetermined direction (X direction) is defined as L1 and when the width of the second opening portion or the third opening portion in the predetermined direction is defined as L2, a relationship of L1<L2 holds true.

APPARATUS, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS OF A COMPACT, HIGH NUMERICAL APERTURE LIGHT ENGINE

Implementations of the present disclosure relate to apparatus, systems, and methods of a compact, high numerical aperture light engine, for example thin optics-based light engine systems using meta-surfaces for wearable displays. One implementation includes an optical device. The optical device includes one or more spatial light modulators, wherein each spatial light modulator is an array of pixels that are individually controllable to output visible light. The optical device also includes a surface defining an exit pupil that is arranged to allow the output visible light to exit the optical device via the exit pupil. The optical device also includes one or more metasurfaces disposed between the one or more spatial light modulators and the exit pupil. The one or more metasurfaces are to focus the visible light that is output by the one or more spatial light modulators.

Laser projector with reduced optical elements and improved power efficiency

A laser projector includes a light combining device, a light splitting system, a plurality of light valves, and a beam combiner. The light combining device is for emitting an illumination beam. The light splitting system is for receiving the illumination beam to generate a plurality of color beams. The plurality of light valves is for receiving and modulating the plurality of color beams to generate modulated color beams. The beam combiner is for combining the modulated color beams to form a full-color image.
