An image forming apparatus includes a conveyance portion, a fixing portion including a heating portion, a guide portion, and first and second extending portions. The guide portion guides the sheet, faces a conveyance path through which the sheet passes, and is disposed at a downstream side of the fixing portion in a sheet conveyance direction. The first extending portion extends in a direction crossing a vertical direction, is disposed upstream of the guide portion, and is disposed at the fixing portion downstream side. The second extending portion extends from the first extending portion to a downstream side of the first extending portion in the conveyance direction. In a direction crossing the conveyance direction, the guide portion is disposed at one side of the conveyance path and the second extending portion is disposed to project more than the guide portion from the one side to another side of the conveyance path.

A pressure rotator presses against the nip former via the endless belt to form a nip between the endless belt and the pressure rotator, through which a conveyed object is conveyed. A separator is disposed downstream from the nip in a conveyance direction of the conveyed object. The separator separates the conveyed object from the endless belt. The separator includes a non-contact portion separated from the endless belt and a contact portion that contacts the endless belt. The contact portion retains a gap having a predetermined size between the non-contact portion and the endless belt.

An image forming apparatus includes one or plural forming devices that form respective images on a recording medium that is being transported, a fixing device provided on a downstream side with respect to at least one of the forming devices in a direction of transport of the recording medium and that fixes the images formed on the recording medium, a delivering device that receives the recording medium transported in a first direction and discharges the recording medium in a second direction that is different from the first direction, and a supplying device that supplies the recording medium to any of the forming devices or to the delivering device. The forming devices, the fixing device, the delivering device, and the supplying device have respective housings and are each joinable to any of the other devices.

The outer peripheral surface of the metal tube has an end region in the axial direction, and a rough region between the end regions. The rough region has a surface roughness greater than a surface roughness of the end region. And the end region and the rough region provide a boundary region, therebetween which is positioned outward of the predetermined region in the axial direction.

FIXING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

A fixing device includes a fixing roller heated to a predetermined temperature by a heater; a pressure belt in pressure contact with the fixing roller; and a pressing part which presses the pressure belt toward the fixing roller. The fixing device adopts a belt-nip system and fixes a toner image formed on a recording medium to the recording medium by heat and pressure while the recording medium is nipped and conveyed through a nip part. The nip part is formed by the fixing roller and the pressure belt and includes an adhesion nip and a separation nip. The pressing part includes a pressing member, a sheet member which covers the pressing surface of the pressing member along a conveying direction of the recording medium, and a pressing fluid which is filled at the adhesion nip between the pressing member and the sheet member.
