Personal care compositions contain a carrier that includes at least one hydrophobic component or gelling agent and optionally water, coral-shaped metal (e.g., gold) nanoparticles dispersed throughout the carrier and forming a nanoparticle stabilizing matrix within the carrier, and spherical-shaped metal (e.g., silver) nanoparticles dispersed throughout the carrier and stabilized by the nanoparticle stabilizing matrix formed by the coral-shaped metal nanoparticles. The spherical-shaped metal nanoparticles act as a preservative and prevent spoiling of personal care products. The coral-shaped metal nanoparticles provide personal care products with hydrodynamic and antioxidant properties. The weight ratio of coral-shaped metal nanoparticles to spherical-shaped metal nanoparticles can be 1:1 to 50:1. The concentration of coral-shaped metal nanoparticles can be 1 ppm or greater, and the concentration of spherical-shaped metal nanoparticles can be less than 1 ppm. Examples of personal care products include sprays, serums, oils, gels, creams, lotions, emulsions, and semi-solids.

The “tattoo” using the biocompatible UV-absorbing nanoparticles or microparticles provides skin protection against sunburn, photoaging, and skin cancers in a permanent or semi-permanent way, but remain clear in the visible light spectrum, or matched closely to the user's specific skin tone. These particles can be solid uniform UV-absorbers, microencapsulated UV-absorbers, or UV-absorbing material embedded in or coated on solid materials. Long-term sun protection from an invisible (does not change the color of the skin) material, embedded in the skin (dermis layer).

The present invention is a chemical formulation and method of using the chemical formulation to neutralize or eliminate odors on a surface. In one aspect, the chemical formulation is an aqueous solution of multi-valent citrate salts and a surfactant that may further comprise a fragrance and/or a color and/or a chelating agent. The method comprises the steps of applying this formulation in sufficient volume to saturate the surface thereby neutralizing or eliminating the odor. In another aspect, the formulation of multi-valent citrate salts may be applied in solid form to an odorous aqueous solution or may be used to coat an absorbent matrix that is expected to receive an odorous aqueous solution.
