An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus and an insertion device. The image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, a transport device, and a control device. The control device acts as a controller and an executer. The controller causes the image forming device to execute a printing job, and causes the insertion device to insert the interleaving paper in a printed material at an insertion start timing designated by the printing job. The executer executes calibration at an execution start timing set in advance, and sets a time point that a predetermined time has elapsed after a previous calibration to the execution start timing in advance. The executer starts to execute the calibration at the insertion start timing, when a predetermined condition is satisfied.

The control method comprises obtaining attribute data on a printing apparatus, the attribute data being output from the printing apparatus, obtaining data indicating a print function, and adding information related to a specific function based on attribute information included in the obtained attribute data if information indicating the specific function is not included in the obtained data indicating the print function. A setting screen including a setting item of the specific function is displayed based on the added information related to the specific function.

A method and apparatus to implement a unified and decentralized machine interface for control of multi-printer systems is disclosed. A master controller device accepts a selection control from a user indicating a plurality of selected printers from printers connected to the master controller device by a network. The master controller device accepts an operation control from the user, indicating at least one printer operation to be performed on the plurality of selected printers. The master controller broadcasts a simultaneous control signal to the plurality of selected printers with data instructing the printers to immediately perform at least one printer operation, triggering, substantially simultaneously with the broadcasting of the simultaneous control signal, performance of the at least one printer operation at the plurality of selected printers, and performing the at least one printer operation substantially simultaneously at the plurality of selected printers immediately upon receiving the simultaneous control signal.

An apparatus is disclosed that automatically generates a set of recommended printer settings 300 for a print job 100 submitted to a printer 10. The apparatus comprises at least one processor which executes computer program code from at least one memory, wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured, with the at least one processor, to cause the apparatus at least to: receive a submitted print job for a printer, the submitted print job including content to be printed by the printer and a set of user input printer settings for the printer; analyze the content to be printed by the printer; designate a classification for the submitted print job based on said analysis; obtain historical data from a knowledge database, the historical data being related to prior print jobs run on the printer and indicating printer settings used when running the prior print jobs on the printer; and output a set of recommended printer settings based at least in part on one or more of the received print job, the designated classification and the obtained historical data.
