DISASTER RECOVERY DRILLS BASED ON CHECKSUM VALIDATIONS
A standby site is periodically synchronized to a primary site. The synchronizing includes copying blocks of a source volume at the primary site that have changed since a last synchronization to the standby site, and a bitmap specifying locations of the changed blocks. A synthetic full copy of the source volume is generated at the standby site. The synthetic full backup is validated by using the bitmap to identify locations on the synthetic full backup to verify. These locations correspond to the changed blocks. A progress of the validation is tracked. A user can specify a threshold percentage value of data that upon being validated indicates that the standby site is ready to assume production operation from the primary site. A readiness of the standby site to assume production operation is reported based on the progress of the validation and the threshold percentage value.
Distributed framework for data proximity-based task splitting in a content indexing system
An improved content indexing (CI) system is disclosed herein. For example, the improved CI system may include a distributed architecture of client computing devices, media agents, a single backup and CI database, and a pool of servers. After a file backup occurs, the backup and CI database may include file metadata indices and other information associated with backed up files. Servers in the pool of servers may, in parallel, query the backup and CI database for a list of files assigned to the respective server that have not been content indexed. The servers may then request a media agent to restore the assigned files from secondary storage and provide the restored files to the servers. The servers may then content index the received restored files. Once the content indexing is complete, the servers can send the content index information to the backup and CI database for storage.
System and method for searching backups
A backup manager for providing backup services includes persistent storage and a backup orchestrator. The persistent storage includes protection policies. The backup orchestrator generates a backup for a client based on the protection policies; obtains system metadata from the client; generates a backup map for the backup based on the system metadata; generates a backup hierarchy for the backup based on the backup map; and stores the backup and at least one selected from a group consisting of the backup hierarchy and the backup map.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR STORAGE MANAGEMENT
Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method and device for storage management. The method comprises receiving at a storage management device a configuration request for a storage space managed by the storage management device, the configuration request indicating a capacity of the storage space and a target size of a chunk in the storage space; and based on the capacity and the target size, dividing the storage space into a metadata region storing a chunk status indicator indicating whether the chunk is assigned with data and a data region including the chunk with the target size. Embodiments of the present disclosure also provide a corresponding device.
Data backup optimization
At least one data file for backup can be received. The data file can be divided into a plurality of data blocks. A first portion of the plurality of data blocks can be allocated to a first data processing system for backup by the first data processing system. A second portion of the plurality of data blocks can be allocated to a second data processing system for backup by the second data processing system.
Secondary storage protection
Due to the threat of virus attacks and ransom ware, an apparatus and methods for protecting backup storage devices from malicious software virus attacks is explored. An independent backup storage system is connected to a primary storage server over an undiscoverable communications line. The backup storage system is a read-only backup storage system most of the time buffering the backup storage system from a virus or attack on the primary storage server. The backup storage system changes from a read-only backup storage system to a read/write backup storage system only during a backup window of time where data is backed up to the backup storage system. A snapshot of the backup data is maintained in the backup storage system and can be made available at numerous points of time in the past if the data primary storage server becomes corrupted.
Performance Impact Information For Adjusting Rate Of A Data Reconstruction Operation
A method for execution by one or more computing devices of a storage network includes obtaining performance impact information regarding a data reconstruction operation associated with a computing device of the one or more computing devices, where the data reconstruction operation is regarding reconstructing data at a first reconstruction rate of a plurality of reconstruction rates, and where the performance impact information includes performance metrics of the storage network affected by the data reconstruction operation. The method further includes determining a second reconstruction rate of the plurality of reconstruction rates to utilize for the data reconstruction operation based on the performance impact information to achieve a first performance metric of the performance metrics. The method further includes executing the data reconstruction operation in accordance with the second reconstruction rate.
MEMORY SYSTEM FOR UPDATING FIRMWARE WHEN SPO OCCURS AND OPERATING METHOD THEREOF
A memory system and an operating method thereof are disclosed. An operating method of a memory system including a nonvolatile memory device and a controller configured to control the nonvolatile memory device includes the controller updating original data of firmware stored in the nonvolatile memory device, the controller transmitting a notification signal, which notifies a host device of completion of the updating of the original data, to the host device when the updating of the original data is completed, and the controller updating backup data of the firmware stored in the nonvolatile memory device after the notification signal is transmitted.
Storage apparatus and storage apparatus migration method
A source remote copy configuration in a source storage system is migrated to a destination storage system as a destination remote copy configuration. The destination primary storage apparatus of the destination storage system defines a virtual volume mapped to the primary volume provided by the source primary storage apparatus which is a storage area of the virtual volume; takes over a first identifier of the primary volume to the virtual volume; transfers, when the virtual volume receives an access request, the access request to the source primary storage apparatus to write data in the primary volume; and takes over the first identifier from the virtual volume to another primary volume provided by the destination primary storage apparatus, after completion of copy of data from primary volume of the source primary storage apparatus into primary volume of the destination primary storage apparatus and secondary volume of the destination secondary storage apparatus.
Storage system and method of creating backup of storage system
According to the present invention, a process that requires for creating a backup at a designated time point is executed by sharing among a plurality of storage control apparatuses. An intermediate storage apparatus 2 reads journal data and a JNCB from a primary storage apparatus 1, and stores the journal data and the JNCB in an intermediate journal volume 28. A secondary storage apparatus 3 reads the journal data and the JNCB from the intermediate storage apparatus 2, and stores the journal data and the JNCB in a secondary journal volume 38. After the secondary storage apparatus 3 having a designated generation restores the journal data up to a designated time point into a secondary data volume 37, the secondary storage apparatus 3 splits a copy pair. Another secondary storage apparatus 3 executes a regular restoring process.
