Control plane method and apparatus for providing erasure code protection across multiple storage devices

A system and method for providing erasure code protection across multiple storage devices. A data switch in a storage system connects a plurality of storage devices to a remote host. Each storage device is also connected to a controller, e.g., a baseboard management controller. During normal operation, read and write commands from the remote host are sent to respective storage devices through the data switch. When a write command is executed, the storage device executing the command sends a copy of the data to the controller, which generates and stores erasure codes, e.g., on a storage device that is dedicated to the storage of erasure codes, and invisible to the remote host. When a device fails or is removed, the controller reconfigures the data switch to redirect all traffic addressed to the failed or absent storage device to the controller, and the controller responds to host commands in its stead.

A system may include a first node in a high-availability cluster; a second node in the high-availability cluster; a redundant interface between a network device and both the first node and the second node, wherein the redundant interface is associated with a redundancy group that designates one of the first node or the second node as a primary node in the high-availability cluster and that designates the other of the first node or the second node as a backup node in the high-availability cluster; a wireless interface of the first node, wherein the wireless interface is included in the redundant interface; and a wired interface of the second node, wherein the wired interface is included in the redundant interface.

Inter-application communication via signal-routes

A system and method for communicating between applications using a routing process. A set of one or more signal-routes are defined on a network device, including a first signal-route. Each signal-route is associated with a state of an application to be executed on the network device, wherein the first signal-route is associated with a first application state of the application. The network device detects, within the application executing within an application layer of the network device, a change in the first application state and notifies other applications of the change in the first application state. Notifying includes modifying the first signal-route, wherein modifying includes adding the first signal-route to or removing the first signal-route from a Routing Information Base (RIB) and advertising the change in the RIB.

System and method to detect and recover from inoperable device management bus

Embodiments are described for detecting and recovering from an inoperable device management bus. A remote management controller is configured to offload device management bus transactions that use a messaging protocol. The messing protocol transactions are offloaded to a bus protocol controller that is responsible for managing bus operations using the messaging protocol. The bus protocol controller updates a set of bus status counters stored in a shared memory based on the processing of the offloaded messaging protocol transactions. The remote management controller processes device management bus transactions that use a bus protocol and updates the bus status counters based on the status of the bus protocol transactions. The remote management controller determines the status of the device management bus based on the bus status counters in shared memory, if the device management bus is inoperable, resets the remote management controller.

Detecting and sparing of optical PCIE cable channel attached IO drawer

A method, system and computer program product are provided for detecting state and sparing of optical Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI-Express or PCIE) cable channels attached to an IO drawer. System firmware is provided for implementing health check functions and state detection and sparing functions. One or more optical cables are connected between a host bridge and an PCIE enclosure, each optical cable includes one or more spare optical channels. An identified failed optical channel is rerouted to the spare optical channel.

Computer system and method for controlling storage apparatus that has replication direction from first logical device (in first storage) to second logical device (in second storage) and from said second logical device to third logical device (in said second storage), wherein said replication direction is reversed when second computer takes over for first computer

A computer system includes a management computer, a first storage apparatus, and a second storage apparatus. A first logical device of the first storage apparatus and a second logical device of the second storage apparatus constitute a remote copy pair. The second logical device and a third logical device of the second storage apparatus constitute a copy pair. The second logical device and the third logical device have virtual IDs to be recognized by an issuer of an I/O request. The second storage apparatus interchanges the virtual IDs of the third logical device and the second logical device with reception of a command from the management computer as a trigger during processing of the I/O request from the issuer of the I/O request to the third logical device, thereby switching an access destination of the issuer of the I/O request from the third logical device to the second logical device.

Network failover handling in computing systems

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and software for computing systems are provided herein. In one example, a computing system includes a first processor configured to establish a network connection with a target system, and transfer to a second processor information describing the network connection comprising a network address and a network port. The computing system includes the second processor configured to identify when the first processor has failed, and responsively inherit the network connection with the target system based at least on the information describing the network connection and packet sequence information received from the target system to resume packet acknowledge or sequence counts established between the first processor and the target system.

USING A TRACK FORMAT CODE IN A CACHE CONTROL BLOCK FOR A TRACK IN A CACHE TO PROCESS READ AND WRITE REQUESTS TO THE TRACK IN THE CACHE

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for using a track format code in a cache control block for a track in a cache to process read and write requests to the track in the cache. A track format table associates track format codes with track format metadata. A determination is made as to whether the track format table has track format metadata matching track format metadata of a track staged into the cache. A determination is made as to whether a track format code from the track format table for the track format metadata in the track format table matches the track format metadata of the track staged. A cache control block for the track being added to the cache is generated including the determined track format code when the track format table has the matching track format metadata.

A redundant system includes devices communicably coupled via communication paths. Each device is communicably coupled via two or more of the communication paths to two or more of the other devices. Each device performs wired communication via the communication paths with the devices communicably coupled to the each device via the communication paths in a normal state. Each device includes a wireless communication unit. When each device communicates with the two or more of the other devices under a condition that malfunction occurs in two or more parts in the redundant system, the each device performs the wired communication via the communication path with a counterpart device with which the wired communication via the communication path is enabled, and switches from the wired communication via the communication path to wireless communication and continues communication with the counterpart device with which the wired communication via the communication path is disabled.
