A portable electronic device is disclosed comprising data processing means and a data repository containing: data records representative of locations relevant to or within a digital map; and data representative of an index associating words contained in the data records with the records in which those words appear. The device further comprises means for, in relation to a received search query including a search string, processing the search string to provide one or more search words; querying the index to identify data records containing the or each search word; and generating a rank for each of the one or more identified data records indicative of the relevance of each identified data record to the search query.

The disclosed technology uses the intent for specifying a scope of the inline search. The intent model for attaching content maintained by third-party applications uses a combination of an embeddings model and an N-gram model with limited seed queries and determines the intent based on intent scores associated with respective third-party applications. The present disclosure ranks respective candidate content based on a degree of relevance to the intent. The user selects one or more content from the list for attaching to the document.

A method for detecting semantic trends within the categorical datasets from text-based documents includes using a processing module to obtain the plurality of text-based documents and perform a basic cleaning of each of the plurality of text-based documents. A semantic infusion module may generate an infused sentence in each of the plurality of text-based documents by inserting a word “A_ class (C.sub.i) _time (T.sub.j)” based on a computed infusion frequency value (I.sub.freq). A pattern generation module is configured to generate semantic trends by extracting the trending items from the word vector representation created by a word vector module, for each word of each infused sentence of each of the plurality of text-based documents.

When analyzing operation of an online system, such as an online concierge system, that receive queries from users and return results in response to those queries, queries received by the online system may include different numbers of terms. The variations in numbers of terms included in different queries makes it difficult to efficiently group queries for analysis, resulting in inefficient analysis of individual queries when analyzing different queries based on their structure. To more efficiently analyze different queries, the online system groups queries based on a number of terms in the query. In some embodiments, queries are grouped based on a logarithmic scale of the number of terms in the query, while in other embodiments queries are grouped based on a square root of the number of terms in the query.
