An imaging device having a controller, a print engine and a raster image processor including methods for reducing wear in one or more components of the imaging device, the raster image processor including instructions for receiving a print job, determining whether one or more function features in the imaging device is disabled prior processing the print job, adjusting a default printing performance of the imaging device upon a determination that the one or more function features in the imaging device is disabled, generating a rasterized image for each page of the print job following the adjusting, and sending each rasterized image to the print engine of the imaging device for printing, wherein the adjusting the printing performance of the imaging device reduces the component wear in the imaging device and extends an allowable life of the one or more imaging components.

DISPENSING PROCESS

A method is described in which printing instructions representing printing content to be printed by a printing system are received, the printing system comprising a dispenser to dispense printing material. Whether to perform a first mapping process or a second mapping process is then selected. The first mapping process comprises mapping an indicator to a first dispensing process to dispense printing material from the dispenser to produce content according to a content characteristic of the printing content at a given location, and the second mapping process comprises mapping the indicator to a second dispensing process to dispense printing material to produce content according to the content characteristic at the given location. The first dispensing process is different than the second dispensing process. The indicator represents the content characteristic. The method also comprises performing the selected mapping process.

Managing printer dry time

As one example, a printer includes a density calculator to determine a content density of data on page to be printed and a controller. In that example, the controller may perform operations to determine a dry time for a swath of the page to be printed based on the content density and an environmental variable and adjust a parameter for the page to be printed to mitigate a drying time of the page to be printed based on the dry time determined for the swath.

A system and method for consistent print product generation that converts aspects of a print job from a first print shop in a first print shop terminology to a standard terminology using a mapping scheme generated by the first print shop such that for a second print shop selected to execute the submitted print job, the standard terminology is converted to the second print shop's terminology by using a mapping scheme generated by the second print shop. The system and method of the inventive subject matter can use feedback to improve the accuracy of the mapping schemes.

CONVERTING APPARATUS, PRINTING SYSTEM, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER READABLE MEDIUM

A converting apparatus includes a converter, an extractor, and a generating unit. The converter converts print data described in a first description language into print data described in a second description language. The extractor extracts command information related to an imposition process from the print data described in the first description language. The generating unit analyzes the command information extracted by the extractor so as to generate information for specifying print-layout definition information to be used from multiple pieces of print-layout definition information stored in a printer that is to execute a printing process. The multiple pieces of print-layout definition information have different imposition processes defined therein.

A recording apparatus performs converting each of recording data and control data for controlling a recording head into transfer data in a command format and transmitting the transfer data to the recording head via a transmission path, and detecting, in the recording head, an error in the received transfer data, and, in the transmission after detecting the error, reconstructs next transfer data in such a manner that a command that has been included in the transfer data in which the error has occurred among commands concerning the control data and that is scheduled not to be included in the next transfer data is included in the next transfer data, and then transmits the next transfer data reconstructed.
