Effect of multiple rules of the road at different elevation profiles on speed constraints and fuel consumption

This invention involves the effect of multiple rules of the road at different elevation profiles on the speed constraints and therefore the overall fuel efficiency. A vehicle designed to optimize fuel consumption that is comprised of the rules of the road that determine maximum speed, minimum speed, stop signs, streetlights, and/or changes in other rules that determine the allowable speeds of the road, a localization mechanism, and an optimization engine to optimize the fuel economy by selecting a speed profile within that maintains the vehicle within the assigned range of speeds and minimizes fuel consumption. A wide variety of methods that typically are used to optimize the fuel efficiency of human drivers operating standard vehicles can also be applied towards autonomous vehicles driving at different speed constraints and with different changes in the elevation.

VEHICULAR TOPPLE RISK NOTIFICATION

Systems, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to generating a notification about a risk of a target vehicle toppling over due to wind. In one embodiment, a method includes determining a wind force of the wind at a location of the target vehicle and determining one or more characteristics of the target vehicle. The method includes determining whether there is a risk of the target vehicle toppling over based on the wind force of the wind and the one or more characteristics of the target vehicle. The method includes generating a notification about the risk.

Multi-Computer System for Dynamically Detecting and Identifying Hazards

Systems, methods, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for providing hazard detection and broadcast functions are provided. In some examples, sensor data may be captured by a mobile device, vehicle, or the like. The data may be used to detect a hazard, identify a type of hazard, and the like. One or more users or groups of users for notification of the hazard may be identified and one or more notifications may be transmitted to users within the group.

Vehicle to vehicle event notification system and method

A facility for providing vehicle to vehicle event notification for connected and/or unconnected vehicles is disclosed. The facility enables a vehicle to detect an occurrence of a vehicle status trigger event and identify information describing an event type. The facility determines a priority of the vehicle status event based at least in part on the type of the vehicle status event. When the vehicle status event is to be reported to at least one other vehicle, the facility enables the vehicle to generate a vehicle status event message that includes the priority of the vehicle status event and at least a portion of the information describing the type of the vehicle status event. The vehicle status event message is then transmitted/broadcasted to at least one other vehicle.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DRIVING ASSISTANCE ALONG A PATH

Various aspects of a system and method for driving assistance along a path are disclosed herein. In accordance with an embodiment, a unique identifier is received from a communication device at an electronic control unit (ECU) of a first vehicle. The unique identifier is received when the first vehicle has reached a first location along a first portion of the path. A communication channel is established between the first vehicle and the communication device based on the received unique identifier. Data associated with a second portion of the path is received by the ECU from the communication device based on the established communication channel. Alert information associated with the second portion of the path is generated by the ECU based on the received data.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USING A DISTRIBUTED DATA CENTER TO CREATE MAP DATA

This disclosure relates to a distributed data center that includes resources carried by a fleet of vehicles. The system includes sensors configured to generate output signals conveying information related to the vehicles and/or the surroundings of vehicles. The system includes a remote computing server configured to maintain map data and distribute it to the fleet, including local map data to individual vehicles pertaining to their surroundings. Individual vehicles may compare the local map data with the information related to their individual surroundings. Based on such comparisons, individual vehicles may detect discrepancies between the local map data and the information related to their individual surroundings. The remote computing server may modify and/or update the map data based on the detected discrepancies.

Method for providing assistance to driver based on HD map, and vehicle apparatus applying method

A method for providing driving assistance based on a HD map includes acquiring information such as position of a vehicle and timing, and acquiring a speed of the vehicle based on the manner of driving, and acquiring distance an intersection in front of the vehicle and information from a HD map such as traffic light intersection ahead. Deciding such as whether the vehicle can pass through the intersection based on the speed of the vehicle, intersection distance, and the traffic light information and prompting and/or controlling the vehicle if it is determined that passage through is not possible. A vehicle-mounted apparatus applying the method is also disclosed.

A travel information sensor senses travel information of a host-vehicle. A biological information sensor senses biological information of a driver. A camera unit senses a facial expression of the driver. A communication unit acquires an agitating degree indicating a degree to which an other-vehicle agitates the driver of the host-vehicle, via a network. An agitated degree calculation unit calculates an agitated degree indicating a degree to which the driver of the host-vehicle is agitated by the other-vehicle. A danger degree determination unit determines a danger degree including whether the driver of the host-vehicle is agitated by the other-vehicle, based on the agitated degree and the agitating degree. A presentation unit warns the host-vehicle of the danger degree if it is determined that the driver of the host-vehicle is agitated by the other-vehicle.
