The invention provides a digital driving method for OLED display device, by using a 3T1C pixel driving circuit comprising a first TFT, a second TFT, a third TFT, a capacitor, and an OLED to drive each sub-pixel, and by dividing a frame of OLED display device into a plurality of unequal-length sub-frames and equal-length sub-frames, and by changing the time gap between the first TFT charging and the third TFT discharging to control the illuminating time of each equal-length sub-frame. By combining the unequal-length and equal-length sub-frames, compared to the unequal-length sub-frame driving only in prior arts, the method can effectively reduce required hardware specification, improve luminance of OLED display device, and ensure the display quality of the OLED display device.

Bit plane dithering apparatus

A controller includes a frame memory configured to store an image frame, a frame memory controller coupled to the frame memory and configured to obtain image data from the image frame. The image data is associated with a color component of the image frame. The controller also includes a dither noise mask generator configured to provide dither noise masks according to dither noise levels for the image data, and a bit plane generator coupled to the frame memory controller and the dither noise mask generator and configured to generate bit planes based on the dither noise masks for the image data.

A novel method for driving a digital display having a plurality of pixel rows includes receiving a frame of data to be written to the display in a predetermined frame time, dividing the frame time into a plurality of time intervals, defining a plurality of row groups, and defining a unique sequence for each row group to display corresponding multi-bit data words and a number of off states on the pixels of the rows of the row groups. The drive sequence of each row is offset with respect to an initial row by a unique predetermined number of off states. The predetermined numbers of off states ensure that the pixel updates of the groups do not overlap.

The one frame includes a number of subframes. Data signals for ones of the subframes having a same length are supplied corresponding to i (i is a natural number of 2 or more) consecutive ones of the scan signals.

The inventors found out that in the case of performing a low gray scale display in which a very small amount of current is supplied to a light emitting element, variations in threshold voltages of driving transistors become notable since the gate-source voltage is low. In view of this, the invention provides a display device in which variations in the threshold voltages of the driving transistors are reduced even in the low gray scale display, and a driving method thereof. According to the invention, a gate-source voltage of the driving transistor is set higher in the low gray scale display than that in the high gray scale display. As one mode to achieve this, different power source lines are provided for the low gray scale display and the high gray scale display and their potentials are set to be different.
