A digital content operating apparatus, including: a communication unit which communicates with an external device which has a display for displaying the digital content; a user operation interface which receives a user operation to control the digital content which is displayed on the external device; a display which displays either a linear content operation panel or an interactive content operation panel; and a controller which controls the user operation interface corresponding to information on the digital content which is displayed on the external device; wherein either the linear content operation panel or the interactive content operation panel is displayed alternatively as the user operation interface on the display.

In generating the MP4 file that stores HDR image data, the HDR image metadata is recorded in the MP4 file. An HDR image metadata storage box is set to a trak box or a traf box in the MP4 file, and the HDR image metadata is stored. The present invention seeks to provide an improved file system that provides essence data for a media file in a way that does not require the contents of the entire file to be available before any file data can be provided. The present invention is reflected in a method of providing file data for a media file of a pre-determined format from a file system comprising a file record database and a data store, wherein the media file corresponds to a programme. The method comprises the steps of receiving details of the programme including the duration of the programme, and determining the layout of the media file in the pre-determined format from the received details of the programme, the layout including locations for essence data within the file. A file record for the media file is then created in the file record database. In response to a request for the location of essence data within the file, a location given by the determined layout of the media file is returned. Further, a stream of essence data corresponding to the contents of the programme is received and the received essence data is stored in the data store. In response to a request for a portion of essence data from the media file corresponding to a time period of the programme, essence data derived from the received essence data is returned according to the determined layout of the media file.

A playing apparatus in an aspect of the present technology has a storage unit that has regions for storing a plurality of units of information indicating the state of the playing apparatus including preference information indicating the type of an HDR video to be preferentially played, out of a first HDR video that is essential in including in a content an HDR video as a video in a wider brightness range than a standard brightness range and a second HDR video that is capable of being included in the content. The playing apparatus acquires encoded data of the HDR video to be preferentially played indicated by the preference information, out of encoded data of the first HDR video and encoded data of the second HDR video, and decodes the acquired encoded data. The present technology is applicable to Blu-ray disc players.

The reproduction device reads a Tone_map stream and a graphics stream of an extended graphics from a recording device, wherein the recording device records the Tone_map stream including HDR information indicating a luminance feature of the extended graphics which are first graphics with a first luminance range different from and broader than a second luminance range, and a luminance conversion definition information used in luminance conversion from the extended graphics to standard graphics. The standard graphics are graphics with the second luminance range. The reproduction device converts the extended graphics into the standard graphics based on the luminance conversion definition information of the extended graphics included in the Tone map stream.

A multimedia file and methods of generating, distributing and using the multimedia file are described. Multimedia files in accordance with embodiments of the present invention can contain multiple video tracks, multiple audio tracks, multiple subtitle tracks, a complete index that can be used to locate each data chunk in each of these tracks and an abridged index that can enable the location of a subset of the data chunks in each track, data that can be used to generate a menu interface to access the contents of the file and ‘meta data’ concerning the contents of the file. Multimedia files in accordance with several embodiments of the present invention also include references to video tracks, audio tracks, subtitle tracks and ‘meta data’ external to the file. One embodiment of a multimedia file in accordance with the present invention includes a series of encoded video frames, a first index that includes information indicative of the location within the file and characteristics of each encoded video frame and a separate second index that includes information indicative of the location within the file of a subset of the encoded video frames.

Disclosed is a method of data processing in an apparatus such as a photographing apparatus. The method includes: determining a file format to record data among a plurality of file formats comprising a dedicated file format and a common file format; recording the data in a file of the common file format and generating an auxiliary file corresponding to the file of the common file format, if the common file format is determined; and recording, in the auxiliary file, information about the dedicated file format and recording information for reading the data in the file of the common file format.

A video scene is displayed in a either a tag mode or a tagless mode. The video scene depicts a plurality of visually perceptible items. The tag mode displays one or more visually perceptible tags in conjunction with the video scene. Each tag is associated with a visually perceptible item appearing in the video scene. The tags are categorized into a plurality of categories. In response to a request to display the video scene in the tag mode for a first one of the plurality of categories, the display device displays the video scene in the tag mode displaying tags in the first one of the categories. In response to a request to display the video scene in the tag mode for a second one of the plurality of categories, the display device displays the video scene in the tag mode displaying tags in the second one of the categories.
