The method includes: determining a total carbon content in a soil to be tested according to an atomic emission spectrum of a first pressed soil sample; determining an inorganic carbon content in the soil to be tested according to a molecular absorption spectrum of a second pressed soil sample; and finally determining an organic matter content in the soil to be tested according to the total carbon content and the inorganic carbon content.

FTIR System and Method for Compositional Analysis of Matter
20170059411 · 2017-03-02 · ·

The present application is directed to a system and method for analysis of a predefined component (e.g., moisture, acid, or carbonate base content) of matter using a reagent that reacts with the predefined component to produce carbon dioxide gas. FTIR analyses are performed on contents of sealed vessels that hold a number of standard mixtures which include the reagent and a component part similar to the predefined component at different concentrations of the component part in order to derive a calibration equation that relates concentration of the predefined component to absorbance in a predefined spectral band characteristic of carbon dioxide gas concentration. FTIR analysis is performed on the contents of a sealed vessel that holds a mixture derived from a sample and the reagent. Data that characterizes concentration of the predefined component in the sample is calculated based on the absorbance in the predefined spectral band and the calibration equation.

Method of testing crystallinity in amorphous pharmaceutical compositions
12313613 · 2025-05-27 · ·

Methods of testing pharmaceutical compositions for the presence or absence of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) crystallinity in an amorphous solid dispersion or solid-state solution using UV/vis spectrometry is provided. Testing may be performed standalone or during manufacturing of a pharmaceutical composition. A predictive model provides for quantitative analysis of the amount of crystalline API based on UV/vis data of corresponding reference samples. Also provided is an apparatus for manufacturing a pharmaceutical composition.

System and method for more accurately determining overall quality of baled plant material
12492971 · 2025-12-09 · ·

A system and method for preparing a sample area of a bale in order to more accurately evaluate the plant material incorporated into the bale. A baler receives, compresses, shapes, and secures material into the bale. A cutter mechanism cuts a portion of the material in the bale into similarly-sized particles. A mixer mechanism mixes the particles into a homogenous aggregate. A compression mechanism compresses the homogenous aggregate into the bale. An NIR testing system receives and analyzes near-infrared radiation reflected by the homogenous aggregate, and generates evaluation data reflecting properties of the material. The cutter may include knives mounted in a compression chamber of the baler. The mixer may be a relief feature on a center rail, the compressor may be a projecting feature on the center rail, and an NIR sensor may be mounted to the center rail so as to press against the surface of the bale.
