Positioning in Wireless Communication Networks

A method for assisting in position determination in a wireless communication system comprises obtaining (S1) of pairs of radio frequency environment data sets for each of a plurality of common positions. A pair of radio frequency environment data sets comprises radio frequency environment data of devices of a first access technology and a second access technology at a common position. A transformation operator is created (S2) based on the pairs. The transformation operator represents a relation between radio frequency environment data sets of the first and second access technology. A method for position determination in a wireless communication system based on transformation operator and network nodes therefore is also disclosed, as well as network nodes for performing the methods.

Methods and systems are disclosed for improving reliability in mobile device positioning. A mobile device generates position data for a device, receives a first access point position reliability state associated with the first access point, determines a reliability of the position data based on the first access point position reliability state and an estimated location of the first access point, determines a threshold reliability requirement of an application associated with the mobile device, compares the reliability of the position data to the threshold reliability requirement of the application, and provides the position data of the device based on the comparison. A network entity determines access point characteristics associated with an access point, generates a position reliability state for the access point, sends the position reliability state to a mobile device, receives position data associated with the mobile device, and determines a trustworthiness of the position data.

POSITIONING PERFORMANCE

An apparatus obtains test data, which comprises radio samples with associated indications of reference locations. The apparatus estimates for each of a plurality of representations of a radio environment positions based on the radio samples of the test data and on the respective representation. Each representation has been generated based on a different selection of batches of fmgerprints. Each fmgerprint comprises a radio sample and an indication of a location of measurement. Each radio sample includes a characteristic of a radio signal transmitted by at least one beacon and an identification of the respective beacon. The apparatus determines for each representation a positioning performance by comparing the estimated positions with the reference locations. Based on the determined positioning performances, the apparatus determines whether any batch of fmgerprints is to be excluded from further use and/or which representation is to be used as a valid representation of the radio environment.

Analyzing a mobile device's movement pattern during a pressure change to detect that a state of an air-conditioning system has changed

Disclosed is an approach for detecting that a state of an air-conditioning system in a building has changed and ultimately determining the air-conditioning system's operating pattern, which could help improve collection and/or use of crowdsourced data for an indoor positioning solution and thus lead to more accurate position estimates. According to the disclosed approach, processor(s) may receive pressure and movement data from a mobile device. The pressure data may indicate a pressure change, and the movement data may indicate a movement pattern of the mobile device that occurred substantially during the pressure change. Given this, processor(s) could make a determination that the movement pattern lacks a substantial change in altitude of the mobile device during the pressure change and could use this determination as basis to detect that the state of the air-conditioning system has changed.

Determining a non-GNSS based position of a mobile device

A method, apparatus and computer readable storage medium determine the position of a mobile device. Position data items are collected that indicate if the mobile device was located in a vicinity of a predetermined public transportation building when the respective position parameter was captured. Motion data items are also collected that represent a respective motion parameter captured by the mobile device within the vicinity of the predetermined public transportation building. Based on the positioning data item(s), the motion data item(s) and/or public transportation data, it is determined if the mobile device has left the vicinity of the predetermined public transportation building on board a public transportation vehicle and/or has arrived at the vicinity of the predetermined public transportation building on board a public transportation vehicle and, if so, the motion data item(s) are associated with a boarding or waiting and/or arrival area for passengers of the public transportation vehicle.
