The second phased array includes a strip transparent electrode array, a phase shifting medium, and a transparent electrode disposed on the phase shifting medium. The strip transparent electrode array is disposed on the light-emitting units. The phase shifting medium is disposed on the strip transparent electrode array. The light-emitting units is configured to produce a laser beam which is incident to the second phased array via the strip transparent electrode array and emitted via the transparent electrode on the phase shifting medium.

The invention relates to a photonic sensor chip comprising a semiconductor substrate with a cavity extending from a back side through an entire depth of the semiconductor substrate, a photonic plane located on the front side of the semiconductor substrate. The chip includes a photonic particle sensor element with an active-surface element having an exposed active surface facing towards the back side of the semiconductor substrate, for capturing selected particles from at least one fluid or gas to which the active surface is exposable. The cavity provides access to the active surface from the back side. The photonic particle sensor element receives an optical input wave via the photonic plane, to expose captured particles on the active-surface element to interaction with the optical input wave and to provide a resulting optical output wave having a spectral component indicative of the interaction between the optical input wave and captured particles.

The transmission components include a demultiplexer, an electro-optic modulator array, and a multiplexer for combining a plurality of modulated optical signals onto a single output signal path as the transceiver output. The receiving components include a demultiplexer responsive to an incoming WDM signal for separating each wavelength component and creating a plurality of received optical signals.

The shared MUX/DEMUX device may be referred to herein as simply a shared AWG for ease of description and not for purposes of limitation. The shared AWG receives optical signals from a plurality of TOSA modules at different channel wavelengths via a plurality of mux input ports, and then combines the optical signals into a multiplexed optical signal, with the multiplexed optical signal being output via a mux output port. In addition, the shared AWG receives an optical signal having different channel wavelengths at a demux input port and separates channel wavelengths to be output via a plurality of demux output ports.

An integrated photonics arrayed waveguide multiplexing/demultiplexing device is disclosed. The device includes an array of waveguides having an incident light waveguide section including a phase correcting region, a transmitted light waveguide section, a tunable reflector, wherein each pair of consecutive waveguides in the array includes a coupler. The coupler configured to combine light from the transmitted light waveguide sections, determine therefrom an optical phase difference between the two consecutive waveguides, and wherein the couplers are further configured to determine therefrom a change in optical path length required for each of two consecutive waveguides to reach a predetermined optical phase difference, and wherein each phase correcting region is configured to apply the change to correct the optical path length of the respective waveguide.
