10663673 · 2020-05-26 · ·

A fiber optic connector contains a housing on which either a male or a female ferrule is mounted. A cable entering from one end of the fiber optic connector is spliced into multiple optical fibers. The tips of the optical fibers are coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) thin films which are transparent for signal transmission within a wavelength range from 820 nm to 1625 nm. Two fiber optic connectors can be connected by intermating the male and the female ferrules, in which the two corresponding optical fibers are aligned with or without physical contact.

OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY

This invention reveals a type of optical fiber connector assembly, comprising of a shell, an optical fiber adapter, an optical fiber connector and optical cable. The optical cable is provided with an optical cable securing device, an optical cable strengthening component being secured to the optical cable securing device, and the optical fiber within the optical cable passes through the optical cable securing device. The optical fiber connector assembly also comprises a first port end cap; the optical cable securing device is separate from the optical fiber connector, and fits within the accommodating cavity therein; the outer end of the end cap possesses an arrestor wall, which prevents the optical cable securing device from being pulled out of the accommodating cavity within the end cap; additionally there is a compressed spring provided between the end cap and the optical fiber adapter, the compressed spring being squeezed between the end surface of the end cap and the end surface of the optical fiber adapter. In this invention, since there is only a compressed spring provided on one side of the optical fiber adapter, the compressed spring being squeezed between the end cap and the end surface of the optical fiber adapter, the overall axial and radial size of the optical fiber connector assembly is reduced.

A connector member for an optical waveguide includes a housing provided with a space portion for holding an end portion of an optical waveguide. In the housing, protruding portions serving as a positioner are provided on left-hand and right-hand side wall portions defining the space portion. Notches in the optical waveguide are fitted on the protruding portions, whereby a front end surface of the end portion of the optical waveguide is positioned at a location a predetermined distance inward from a front end surface of the housing. This configuration achieves optical coupling without bringing the end surface of the optical waveguide into direct abutment with an end surface of a target optical connector.

SPRINGLESS RETENTION STRUCTURE FOR AN INGRESS PROTECTED HYBRID CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY

An optical connector assembly a first structure and a second structure, the two structures secured together using a retention structure to form a hybrid assembly. The retention structure uses a slot apex located in a slot channel for securing at least one latch pin of a coupling nut to an adapter housing forming the ingress protected connector without the use of a bias spring. The hybrid assembly is designed to resist water or debris ingress, and may eliminate the use of a bias force to further resist separating the hybrid assembly. When the latch pin passes over the apex and resides in a recess, an audible sound is made indicating the hybrid assembly adapter and coupling nut is mated

Fiber optic connector and assembly thereof

A factory processed and assembled optical fiber arrangement is configured to pass through tight, tortuous spaces when routed to a demarcation point. A connector housing attaches to the optical fiber arrangement at the demarcation point (or after leaving the tight, tortuous spaces) to form a connectorized end of the optical fiber. A fiber tip is protected before leaving the factory until connection is desired.

An optical connector includes: an optical fiber; a ferrule provided at an end of the optical fiber, through which a core wire of the optical fiber is inserted; a housing 9 configured to accommodate the ferrule; a fiber end face provided in the core wire of the optical fiber, located inside the ferrule from an end face of the ferrule in a state where the core wire is inserted through the ferrule; and a fixing means provided between an outer periphery of the core wire and an inner periphery of the ferrule, the fixing means configured to fix the core wire of the optical fiber to the ferrule and to fix a position of the fiber end face.

OPTICAL CONNECTION STRUCTURE, OPTICAL CONNECTOR, AND OPTICAL CONNECTING METHOD

An optical connection structure including first optical fibers, second optical fibers, a first optical connector, and a second optical connector is disclosed. The first optical connector is configured such that each of first distal end portions of the first optical fibers protrudes from a first front end surface to the outside when the first optical connector and the second optical connector are connected to each other. Each of the first distal end portions is inserted into a corresponding second fiber hole of the second optical connector. The second optical connector is configured such that each of second distal end portions of the second optical fibers is moved rearward inside second fiber holes due to each of the first distal end portions respectively inserted into the second fiber holes. The first optical fibers and the second optical fibers are optically coupled to each other inside the second fiber holes.

FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR WITH POLYMERIC MATERIAL BETWEEN FIBER END AND FERRULE END, AND FABRICATION METHOD

A fiber optic connector includes polymeric material arranged within a front end portion of at least one internal bore of a ferrule. At least a portion of the polymeric material extends from a terminal end of at least one optical fiber to at least a front end of the ferrule. A polymeric material end face serving as a conduit for transmitting optical signals to and/or from the at least one optical fiber. Waveguiding regions may be incorporated in polymeric material assemblies. Polymeric material may be printed, dispensed, or otherwise applied over the terminal end of the at least one optical fiber in the at least one internal bore, and subsequently cured. Polymeric material arranged over (e.g., in contact with) the terminal end of an optical fiber may reduce or eliminate the need for fiber end face polishing, and creates physical contact through an optical interface without exerting undue mechanical stresses on the optical fiber.
