PC/APC dual-purpose adapter for inspecting circular ruggedized fiber optic connectors

The dual-purpose adapter for inspecting circular (plug-type or receptacle-type) ruggedized fiber optic connector has a guide and a fitting tip. The guide is formed by fastening a template inserter to a frame in two alternative opposite directions. The template inserter has light channels corresponding in relative positions to the endfaces in the ruggedized connector, and two locating holes for coupling and aligning with the ruggedized connector through two guide pins. Depending upon the direction in which the template inserter is fastened to the frame, the fitting tip may be inserted into a respective end of the light channels to allow the optical axis of an inspector probe connected to it to intersect at right angle with PC or APC endfaces for inspection by the inspector probe. For receptacle-type connectors, the guide further includes the two guide pins which can be locked from axial movement at two positions.

Tunable MPO connector

An MPO connector includes a pin configuration with an elongated shaft extending along an axis A. A first portion proximate a first end of the shaft includes a tool surface feature for engagement by a tool to impart a rotation to the shaft. A second portion proximate a second end of the shaft is cylindrical and centered on an axis B, offset relative to the axis A. A method of minimizing insertion loss between mating channels of mated MPO connectors includes inserting light into a channel of a first MPO connector, then measuring an intensity of light output from a channel of a second MPO, mated to the first MPO connector. A pin associated with one of the mated MPO connectors is rotated to a point where the measured light output from the channel of the second MPO connector is approximately maximized.

A module housing case is described. The modular housing case includes a fiber optic component housing defined as a cavity that is sized to receive a fiber optic connector. Within the cavity is a ferrule guide. The module housing case also has an internal cavity that is at least partially enclosed. Components to assist in magnification may be disposed at least partially within the internal cavity. Finally, the module housing case employs a camera lens alignment feature.

Fiber connectors for multimode optical fibers

The output profile of light from a multimode optical fiber is determined using a geometrical optics approach where the rays launched into the fiber conform to LP-modes of the fiber. This output profile can then be employed as an input to a second fiber to calculate the transmission losses of a coupler that introduces various coupling inaccuracies, such as lateral offset, axial offset, and angular offset.

Inspection device for optical connector

An inspection device for an optical ferrule includes one or more reflectors. Each reflector has a mating surface and a mirror disposed at an oblique angle with respect to the mating surface. Each reflector is configured to mate with the optical ferrule when the optical ferrule is disposed within a housing of an optical connector. When the mating surface of the reflector is in mated contact with the mating surface of the optical ferrule, the mirror is positioned to provide a reflected view of at least a portion of a mating surface of the optical ferrule.
