Optical fiber connection system including optical fiber alignment device
The present disclosure relates to an optical fiber alignment device that has an alignment housing that includes first and second ends. The alignment housing defines a fiber insertion axis that extends through the alignment housing between the first and second ends. The alignment housing includes a fiber alignment region at an intermediate location between the first and second ends. First and second fiber alignment rods are positioned within the alignment housing. The first and second fiber alignment rods cooperate to define a fiber alignment groove that extends along the fiber insertion axis. The first and second fiber alignment rods each having rounded ends positioned at the first and second ends of the alignment housing.
Fiber gripper assembly for optical connectors
A fiber gripper component includes a fiber receiving recess which extends from a first surface of the fiber gripper component toward a second surface of the fiber gripper component. The fiber receiving recess extends from a front face to a rear face. The fiber receiving recess has a fiber receiving surface which is positioned between the first surface and the second surface. A plurality of resilient fiber receiving grooves extend from the fiber receiving surface toward the second surface. The resilient fiber receiving grooves have a width which is less than an outer-diameter dimension of mating optical fibers to provide a press fit of the optical fibers into the resilient fiber receiving grooves. The fiber gripper component is molded with tolerances in the submicron range to maintain part functionality to allow automatable fiber assembly.
Methods for processing a multi-fiber ferrule using a laser
A method for processing ferrules for fiber optic connectors is disclosed herein. The method involves ablating a distal end face of the ferrule with the plurality of laser beam pulses to remove a distal layer of the ferrule without removing an optical fiber secured within the ferrule. By removing the distal layer from the ferrule, the optical fiber is caused to protrude distally outwardly from the distal end of the ferrule by a desired amount. A final polish is applied to the distal end face of the ferrule. In some examples, a subsequent laser step is used to remove portions of the distal end face of the ferrule.
MICROFABRICATION METHOD FOR OPTICAL COMPONENTS
A ferrule mold having a reverse-image of a through-hole array for optical fibers is formed. A non-polymeric ferrule material is deposited in the reverse-image mold, followed by removing the mold to create a multi-fiber connector ferrule having at least two fiber through-holes. An optical fiber is inserted in each through-hole until each fiber endface is positioned approximately even with a connection surface of the ferrule. A fiber recess for each of the optical fibers is formed such that each fiber is recessed from the multi-fiber ferrule connection surface by a distance of at least 0.1 micron. The recess may be formed by differential polishing of the non-polymeric ferrule and endfaces of the optical fibers. Alternatively, a layer of spacer material may be deposited over the multi-fiber ferrule connection surface. An antireflection coating is deposited over the ends of the recessed fibers.
FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR WITH OVERMOLD LEAD-IN TUBE
The present disclosure relates to a fiber optic connector designed to improve the insertion of an optical fiber within the fiber optic connector. The fiber optic connector may include a lead-in tube that makes the insertion of an optical fiber easier. That is, the lead-in tube may be molded over a ferrule hub to fully encapsulate a rear end thereof such that the optical fiber does not snag or hang up during insertion.
Optical connector, optical transmission module, and plug for optical connector
An optical connector has a receptacle which is fastened on a substrate provided with an optical waveguide, and a plug which holds an optical fiber and is positioned with respect to the receptacle. In the receptacle, an exposing opening for exposing an end face of the optical waveguide and a pin hole which opens in an opening direction of the exposing opening are provided. The plug has a facing surface facing the receptacle; a protruding part which protrudes from the facing surface, is formed integrally with the facing surface, exposes the an end face of the optical fiber on its front end face, and is inserted into the exposing opening; and the pin which is provided on the facing surface and is fitted in the pin hole. The front end face of the protruding part is located further toward an insertion direction side than a front end of the pin.
Receiving device and method for manufacturing such a receiving device
The present invention is directed to a device for receiving an object in a reproducible manner, comprising: —a substantially rigid housing comprising an opening configured to receive therein the object to be reproducibly received; —first elastic engaging means comprising a first set of elastic flexure elements which are configured, when the object to be reproducibly received is situated in an engaging state received in the opening, to engage on the circumferential form of the object to be reproducibly received present at that position; —second engaging means which are configured, when the object to be reproducibly received is situated in an engaging state received in the opening, to engage on the circumferential form of the object to be reproducibly received present at that position; and —wherein the first elastic engaging means and the second engaging means are arranged some distance from each other in the opening. Furthermore, the invention is related to a method for manufacturing such a receiving device.
FIBER OPTIC FERRULE ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
A fiber optic ferrule assembly is provided, which comprises a ferrule and an optical fiber received in the ferrule. The ferrule and the optical fiber are directly joined together, so as to fix the optical fiber in the ferrule. At least a part of the ferrule is directly over-molded on the optical fiber by injection molding or shrunk on the optical fiber. In the embodiments of the present invention, the ferrule is directly over-molded or shrunk on the optical fiber, so that the ferrule and the optical fiber are directly joined together. As a result, the optical fiber is stably fixed in the ferrule.
