TUNED FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR

A fiber optic connector with a hub extension positioned on the hub of the connector. Prior to assembly of the connector with the rear boot, the hub and ferrule assembly can be pushed backward within the front and rear housings to clear an anti-rotation portion of the front housing and turned for tuning. After complete assembly of the rear boot, the hub extension bottoms out against the boot prior to the hub and ferrule assembly disengaging the anti-rotation portion of the front housing, thereby maintaining the tuned position.

FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR WITH FIELD INSTALLABLE OUTER CONNECTOR HOUSING

An optical connector includes a first sub-assembly that is factory-installed to a first end of an optical fiber and a second sub-assembly that is field-installed to the first end of the optical fiber. The optical fiber and first sub-assembly can be routed through a structure (e.g., a building) prior to installation of the second sub-assembly. The second sub-assembly interlocks with the first sub-assembly to inhibit relative axial movement therebetween. Example first sub-assemblies include a ferrule, a hub, and a strain-relief sleeve that mount to an optical fiber. Example second sub-assemblies include a mounting block; and an outer connector housing forming a plug portion.

Ruggedized fiber optic connectors and connection systems

Example fiber optic connector systems have rugged, robust designs that are environmentally sealed and that are relatively easy to install and uninstall in the field. Some connector systems can be configured in the field to be compatible with different styles of fiber optic adapters. Some connectors include a first seal (90) on a release sleeve; and a second seal (88) between the release sleeve and a connector body. Other connectors include a seal (139) and a flexible latch (136) on a connector. Other connectors include a protective structure (228, 328, 428) that mounts over the fiber optic connector. Other connectors include a protective outer shell (528, 860) and a sealing and attachment insert (570, 570A, 876). Other connectors include a protective outer shell (728) and a fastener (780).

Fiber optic micro connector

A micro connector kit including a ferrule assembly, an optical sub-assembly (“OSA”) and a micro connector. The ferrule assembly is coupled to an optical fiber and includes a ferrule. The OSA can receive an electric signal and transmit an optical signal or receive an optical signal and transmit an electric signal. The OSA includes a receptacle sized and shaped to receive the ferrule of the ferrule assembly to form an optical connection between the ferrule assembly and the OSA. The micro connector secures the optical connection between the ferrule assembly and the OSA. The micro connector includes a micro connector housing that forms a direct, mating connection with the OSA to secure the optical connection between the ferrule assembly and the OSA. The connection is made using only a very small space, allowing more ferrule assembly and OSA connections to be made in a smaller area.

An optical fiber connector sub-assembly for an optical fiber connector including a ferrule configured to hold an optical fiber therein along an axis of the connector, a ferrule holder configured to hold the ferrule at a front portion of the connector, a ferrule housing including a front portion configured to slidingly receive the ferrule holder and a rear portion terminating a fiber optic cable that includes the optical fiber, and an inner housing configured to fixed coupled with the ferrule housing. The ferrule is configured to terminate the optical fiber. The ferrule holder, the ferrule housing, and the inner housing are configured to be rotatably fixed to one another. The ferrule holder is configured to slide axially relative to the inner housing.

Cylindrical optical ferrule alignment apparatus

An alignment sleeve for an optical fiber adapter includes features to bring precision alignment between optical fiber cores. The sleeve includes a tubular inner area to accept first and second ferrule ends of first and second connectors. First and second tabs project from first and second ends of the sleeve. The first and second tabs slide into holes in the ferrule holders or barrels of the first and second connectors, so as to provide rotational alignment of the first and second ferrules, which may be presenting multi-core optical fibers. A mid-portion of the sleeve may include geometrical features to enable a snap fit of the sleeve into a housing of the adapter. More than one tab may be employed at the ends of the sleeve, and the tabs may have defined spacing and/or dimensions to enable security keying, only permitting coupling between connectors possessing matching holes in the ferrule barrels.

HARDENED FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR WITH PRE-COMPRESSED SPRING

A fiber optic connector is disclosed that includes a plug body having a plug end and a connector core that mounts within the plug body. The connector core includes a ferrule subassembly including a ferrule, a ferrule hub that attaches to the ferrule, a spring holder and a connector spring. The ferrule sub-assembly is assembled with the connector spring pre-compressed to an initial compressed state prior to mounting the connector core within the connector body. The plug body and the core are configured such that the connector spring is moved from the initial compressed state to a final compressed state when the connector core is loaded in the plug body. In certain examples, tuning features can be integrated into the connector core.

A fiber optic connector having a ferrule extending along a longitudinal axis and a ferrule holder from which the ferrule extends. The fiber optic connector also includes a housing having a housing body in which the ferrule holder is received and a housing cap configured to be attached to the housing body. The housing cap defines a front end of the housing when attached to the housing body. The ferrule holder and housing body allow rotation of the ferrule holder relative to the housing body about the longitudinal axis when the housing cap is not attached to the housing body. The housing cap restricts rotation of the ferrule holder relative to the housing body about the longitudinal axis when the housing cap is attached to the housing body.
