The carrying controller obtains a medium length of the preceding medium in the carrying path, and changes the stop position of the preceding medium based on the medium length such that the trailing edge of the preceding medium is maintained distant from the leading edge of the succeeding medium while the preceding medium stops at the stop position.

An image forming apparatus includes a moving member that is movable between a first position and a second position different from the first position, first stop member that is disposed corresponding to the first position and comes into contact with the moving member to stop the moving member in the first position, a second stop member that is disposed corresponding to the second position and comes into contact with the moving member to stop the moving member in the second position, a first shock absorber dial is disposed in at least one of the moving member and the first stop member, and absorbs impact at a time of contact, and a second shock absorber that is disposed in at least one of the moving member and the second stop member, and absorbs impact at a time of contact.

An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier that carries a toner image; a transfer part that is disposed so as to be in contact with the image carrier and transfers the toner image carried by the image carrier to a recording medium; and a charge applying part that is disposed on an upstream side of the transfer part in a recording-medium transport direction and charges the recording medium such that an amount of charge in the recording medium varies according to the position therein in a direction intersecting a recording-medium transport direction when the recording medium has reached the transfer part.

An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image bearers, a transfer bias member, and a power source. When the transfer bias member transfers a color toner image onto a recording sheet, a second peak value of a peak-to-peak of a transfer bias, which is smaller than a first peak value of the peak-to-peak in an electrostatic force to move toner from the image bearers or an intermediate transfer body to the recording sheet, is zero or has a first polarity to generate the electrostatic force in a transfer direction to move toner from the image bearers or the intermediate transfer body to the recording sheet. When the transfer bias member transfers a monochromatic toner image including only black toner onto the recording sheet, the second peak value is zero or has a second polarity to generate an electrostatic force in an opposite direction to the transfer direction.
