20230324628 · 2023-10-12 ·

An adaptor and a method for mating a fiber optic connector to an adaptor are provided. The adaptor includes a retaining clip including a slideable surface. A shutter spring is positioned along the slideable surface. A shutter is pivotally connected to the retaining clip from a first angle prior to insertion of the connector into the adaptor to a second angle after receiving the connector. A main body forms an opening through which the retaining clip is received. The connector is insertable through an opening formed by a bushing and a sleeve. The method includes sliding the shutter spring into the retaining clip, connecting the shutter to the shutter spring, biasing the shutter in a forward direction via the shutter spring held in a non-orthogonal angle prior to insertion of the connector, and inserting the retaining clip including the shutter and the shutter spring into the main body.

MULTI-FIBER REUSABLE SPLICING SYSTEMS

The present disclosure relates generally to a bare fiber connection system that includes first and second multi-fiber fiber optic connectors that have a low profile and are mounted in a multi-fiber adapter. The multi-fiber fiber optic connectors are bare fiber connectors that each include a connector body and a plurality of optical fibers extending through the connector body. The bare fiber connection system includes a latching arrangement for securing the first and second multi-fiber fiber optic connectors respectively in first and second adapter ports. One aspect of the present disclosure relates to the first and second multi-fiber fiber optic connectors and the multi-fiber adapter lacking integrated structures for releasing the first and second multi-fiber fiber optic connectors from the first and second adapter ports. Another aspect of the present disclosure relates to a release key that is separate from the first and second multi-fiber fiber optic connectors and the multi-fiber adapter for releasing the first and second multi-fiber fiber optic connectors from the first and second adapter ports of the multi-fiber adapter.

In a fiber optic connection system, an adapter has an expandable wall portion that snaps onto a connector and latches with a latch knob of the connector housing. A lock and an extractor are disposed on the connector housing. During insertion, the extractor is in a forward position as the connector housing is inserted into the adapter. The adapter moves the lock backward relative to the housing and extractor, toward an unlocking position, until the adapter snaps onto the latch knob. Then the lock returns to the locking position to lock the connector to the adapter. To extracts the connector, the extractor is pulled backward. This moves the lock backward to unlock the connector from the adapter. Further pulling unlatches the adapter from the latch knob by expanding the expandable wall portion and extracts the connector.
