An object of the present invention is to provide a polarizer, a method of producing a polarizer, a laminate, and an image display device which enable achievement of both the degree of alignment and light fastness. The polarizer of the present invention is a polarizer formed of a polarizer-forming composition which contains a liquid crystal compound and a dichroic material, in which the liquid crystal compound is a polymer compound having a smectic liquid crystallinity.
Helical photonic crystal-based reflective-type color display and method for manufacturing the same
A reflective-type color display according to the present disclosure includes a lower substrate and an upper substrate, a polarization plate positioned on an outer surface of the upper substrate, a plurality of helical photonic crystals arranged between the lower substrate and the upper substrate and having different reflection properties of light in the visible region, and a tunable wave plate positioned on the plurality of helical photonic crystals to control the reflection intensity by continuously changing the phase retardation. According to an embodiment, it is possible to simultaneously achieve the features of three primary colors, analog grey levels, high resolution, and fast response through the separation of the function of color reflection from the intensity tuning capability of the photonic crystal, beyond the limitation of existing reflective-type display technology.
OPTICALLY FUNCTIONAL FILM
Provided is an optically functional film that can contribute to the widening of the color gamut of an image display apparatus, the optically functional film being suppressed in brightness reduction and being excellent in durability. The optically functional film of the present invention includes: a resin layer; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer arranged on at least one side of the resin layer, wherein the resin layer and/or the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer contains, as coloring matters, a compound X represented by the general formula (I) or (II) and a compound Y having an absorption peak in a wavelength band in a range of from 400 nm to 700 nm, which are mixed with each other.

The present application discloses a display panel and a display apparatus. The display panel includes a substrate, and a plurality of first-layer conducting wires, where each of the first-layer conducting wires is disposed on the substrate, a polarizing color filter layer is disposed on the first-layer conducting wire and forms a color filter film with anisotropy, and the first-layer conducting wire is connected to a column data driver and a pixel driver of the display panel.
SQUARYLIUM COMPOUNDS FOR USE IN DISPLAY DEVICES
Described herein are embodiments of squarylium compounds for use as filters in light-emitting and/or display devices. One problem of known quarylium dyes is that strong nucleophiles can attack the electron-deficient cyclobutene ring which can lead to a loss of the dye's colour. Another potential drawback with squaraine dyes can be their tendency to form aggregates, which can lead to a substantial broadening of their absorption bands. Use of the present compounds in filters address these problems. The squarylium compounds of the present invention have the following formulas:

Provided is a liquid crystal display device having a viewing-side polarizing plate, a liquid crystal panel and a light source-side polarizing plate, which are stacked sequentially, wherein the viewing-side polarizing plate comprises a first polarizer and a first protective film formed on a light output surface of the first polarizer, the light source-side polarizing plate comprises a second polarizer and a fourth protective film formed on a light incident surface of the second polarizer, and the TD shrinkage ratio of the fourth protective film is greater than the TD shrinkage ratio of the first protective film.
CIRCULARLY POLARIZING PLATE
Provided is a circularly polarizing plate that is excellent in antireflection characteristic, and that can be produced at low cost. The circularly polarizing plate of the present invention includes in the stated order: a polarizer; a retardation layer (20a) configured to function as a /4 plate; and a colored layer, wherein an angle formed by an absorption axis of the polarizer and a slow axis of the retardation layer (20a) is from 35 to 55, wherein the colored layer has an absorption peak in a wavelength band in a range of from 580 nm to 610 nm, and wherein the colored layer contains a compound X represented by the general formula (I) or the general formula (II).
