A liquid crystal element (1) includes helical structures (7). The liquid crystal element (1) has a light incidence surface (13) on which light is incident and a reflective surface (17) which reflects the light coming through the light incidence surface (13). Each helical structure (7) includes structure units (9). Each structure unit (9) includes liquid crystal molecules (11) stacked in a twisted manner to form a helix. A second end (E2) of one structure unit (9) of structure units (9) adjacent to one another in a first direction (A1) serves as a first end (E1) of the other structure unit (9). Directions of orientation of the liquid crystal molecules (11) at the first ends (E1) included in the helical structures (7) are identical. The reflective surface (17) includes at least one of the first ends (E1) included in each helical structure (7). The reflective surface (17) is non-parallel to the light incidence surface (13).
SWITCHABLE REFLECTIVE CIRCULAR POLARIZER IN HEAD-MOUNTED DISPLAY
Disclosed herein are techniques for displaying images on multiple image planes in a near-eye display system. A switchable optical device includes a first polarizer configurable to polarize incident light into light of a first circular polarization state, and a second polarizer configurable to transmit light of a second circular polarization state and reflect light of the first circular polarization state into light of the first circular polarization state. The switchable optical device also includes a partial reflector positioned between the first polarizer and the second polarizer. The partial reflector is configured to transmit light from the first polarizer and reflect light from the second polarizer, where the reflected light and the light from the second polarizer have different polarization states. At least one of the first polarizer or the second polarizer includes a cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) circular polarizer that is switchable by a voltage signal.

COMPOSITE OPTICAL FILM, BACKLIGHT MODULE USING SAME, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY THEREOF
Disclosed is a composite optical film, including a first sealing film and a second sealing film disposed in opposite to each other; a cholesterol LC brightness enhancement film interposed between the first and second sealing film; and a quantum dot (QD) film interposed between the cholesterol LC brightness enhancement film and the second sealing film, thereby integrating the cholesterol LC brightness enhancement film and QD film. By encapsulating the cholesterol LC brightness enhancement film and the QD film between the watertight and oxygen-tight first and second sealing film, the reliability of the cholesterol LC brightness enhancement film and the QD film on the durability against water and oxygen is enhanced. Besides, because the cholesterol LC brightness enhancement film can repeatedly emit light to excite quantum dots of the QD film for increasing the utilization of quantum dots, the concentration of quantum dots in QD film and manufacturing cost are reduced.

The sensor includes a light source, a band pass filter, and a light-receiving element, in which the band pass filter includes two cholesteric liquid crystal layers and a discontinuous layer disposed between the two cholesteric liquid crystal layers, in the two cholesteric liquid crystal layers, helical twisted directions and helical pitches are the same, and in a case where the discontinuous layer is a layer other than a cholesteric liquid crystal layer and a wavelength having a lowest reflectivity in a selective reflection wavelength range of the band pass filter is represented by m [nm], a thickness [nm] is in a range of 30(m/550) to 150(m/550).

The transfer-type decorative sheet includes: a temporary support; an underlayer that is peelable from and disposed on one surface of the temporary support; and a decorative layer that is disposed on the underlayer, in which the decorative layer includes at least one cholesteric liquid crystal layer, the underlayer is a layer that is formed of a composition including a monomer having one or two polymerizable groups, and a water contact angle of the underlayer is 50 or more.
