LIQUID CRYSTAL DEVICE AND ELECTRONIC APPARATUS
A liquid crystal device includes a reflection-type liquid crystal panel in which a first substrate provided with a reflective layer and a second substrate having light-transmissivity face each other via a liquid crystal layer. In the liquid crystal device, a λ/4 phase difference plate is arranged in an optical path in which light incident from the second substrate side is reflected by the reflective layer and emitted from the second substrate side, and a phase difference compensation layer such as a C plate and O plate provided integrally with the liquid crystal panel is provided in the optical path. The λ/4 phase difference plate is an inorganic material film provided on a second end surface facing the second substrate in the polarized light separating element. The phase difference compensation layer is an inorganic material film provided on a surface of the second substrate opposite to the liquid crystal layer.
BACKLIGHT MODULE AND DISPLAY DEVICE
A backlight module and a display device are provided. The backlight module includes a polarizing light guide plate configured to convert incident light into first polarized light and second polarized light, a polarization direction of the first polarized light being perpendicular to a polarization direction of the second polarized light.
Polarization beam splitter, surface light source device, and display device
A polarization beam splitter is disclosed having reduced size and weight relative to the prior art. The disclosed polarization beam splitter has a translucent substrate and a hologram layer provided on a front surface of the substrate. The polarization beam splitter is capable of separating S-polarized light from light incident on the hologram layer via the substrate, wherein the substrate has a back surface facing the front surface on which the hologram layer is provided, and a side surface connecting the front surface and the back surface. The hologram layer has a hologram for diffracting circularly polarized light incident on the hologram layer from outside the substrate via either the back surface or a portion of the side surface to generate S-polarized light having an extinction ratio of 50:1 or greater toward the other of the back surface or the portion of the side surface.
Optical device utilizing LCoS substrate and spatial light modulator
The invention is directed to a microdisplay of an optical device, comprising: a light source; an optical element, disposed on the light exit side of the light source to adjust the light path of the light source; an LCoS substrate, a shape of which exhibits a notch in at least one dimension, the light source projected onto the LCoS substrate, the LCoS substrate reflects the light source entering the notch; and a spatial light modulator, after an outgoing light reflected by the LCoS substrate, the outgoing light enters the spatial light modulator; the spatial light modulator adjusts an azimuth angle of a liquid crystal layer to eliminate noise of the outgoing light; wherein, the outgoing light adjusted by the spatial light modulator is projected onto a eyepieces to display images without the fringe field effects.
Beam splitter with switchable output beam
A beam splitter configured to split incident light includes a polarization grating having a liquid crystal layer and a reflective sub-aperture beam splitter. The liquid crystal layer is configured to switch between an “on” state and an “off” state in response to an applied voltage. In the “off” state, the polarization grating angularly deviates and polarizes a portion of received incident light passing therethrough. In the “on” state, crystals of the polarization grating align with the incident light, allowing it to pass therethrough unimpeded and unpolarized. The beam splitter includes a plurality of sub-aperture mirrors which are spaced at randomly varying distances from one another, the mirrors being configured to reflect a portion of the incident light.
SPATIAL LIGHT MODULATOR DEVICE FOR THE MODULATION OF A WAVE FIELD WITH COMPLEX INFORMATION
A three-dimensional light modulator, of which the pixels are combined to form modulation elements. Each modulation element can be coded with a preset discrete value such that three-dimensionally arranged object points can be holographically reconstructed. The light modulator is characterized in that assigned to the pixels of the modulator are beam splitters or beam combiners which, for each modulation element, combine the light wave parts modulated by the pixels by means of refraction or diffraction on the output side to form a common light beam which exits the modulation element in a set propagation direction.
Device and method for generating a 3D light field
The present disclosure provides a device for generating a 3D light field. The device comprises a first lens having a fixed focal length, and an imaging element arranged to send light into the first lens. The imaging element is configured to send the light from different positions within a defined distance on the optical axis of the first lens, in order to produce different depth layers of the 3D light field within a frame duration.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR A SIX-PRIMARY WIDE GAMUT COLOR SYSTEM
Systems and methods for a multi-primary color system for display. A multi-primary color system increases the number of primary colors available in a color system and color system equipment. Increasing the number of primary colors reduces metameric errors from viewer to viewer. A six-primary color system includes Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta primaries. The systems of the present invention maintain compatibility with existing color systems and equipment and provide systems for backwards compatibility with older color systems.
