VIEW ANGLE CONTROL STRUCTURE AND DISPLAY APPARATUS

A view angle control structure and a display apparatus are provided. The display apparatus at least includes the view angle control structure, which includes first and second polarizing layers, first and second substrates and a polarization adjusting layer. The first and second polarizing layers are sequentially disposed on a transmission path of a light beam. The first and second substrates are sequentially disposed on the transmission path of the light beam and located between the first and second polarizing layers. At least one of the first and second substrates has a birefringence. The polarization adjusting layer is disposed on the transmission path of the light beam and located between the first and second substrates for changing a polarization state of the light beam according to an applied voltage. The view angle control structure and the display apparatus of the invention are excellent in anti-peeping effect, slimness and image quality.

A light modulation device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a light modulation device includes a first polymer film substrate, a second polymer film substrate, an active liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second polymer film substrates, wherein the active liquid crystal layer is capable of switching between a first orientation state and a second orientation state different from the first orientation state under an applied voltage, the first and second polymer film substrates have an in-plane retardation of 4,000 nm or more for light having a wavelength of 550 nm, a ratio of an elongation (E1) in a first direction to an elongation (E2) in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction of 3 or more, and wherein an angle formed by the first directions of the first and second polymer film substrates is in a range of 0 degrees to 10 degrees.

Optical films prepared employing such cellulose esters have a variety of commercial applications, such as, for example, as compensation films in liquid crystal displays and/or waveplates in creating circular polarized light used in 3-D technology.

A refractive index of the first liquid crystal capsules on the z-axis is greater than refractive indices of the first liquid crystal capsules on the x-axis and on the y-axis. Each of the second liquid crystal capsules includes second liquid crystal molecules. A dielectric anisotropy of the second liquid crystal molecules is greater than 0. A refractive index of the second liquid crystal capsules on the z-axis is smaller than refractive indices of the second liquid crystal capsules on the x-axis and on the y-axis.
