ELECTRO-OPTICAL DEVICE WITH RING RESONATOR
A ring resonator electro-optical device includes a first silicon nitride waveguide and a second annular silicon waveguide that comprises a first section running under a second section of the first waveguide. The second waveguide also includes an annular silicon strip having a cross-section increasing in the first section from a minimum cross-section located under the second section.
Low crosstalk, common path, dual ring sagnac interferometer for disturbance sensing
Embodiments of the present disclosure include a low crosstalk, optical fiber based disturbance detection system that includes single-mode optical fiber (SMF) arranged into dual ring Sagnac interferometer wherein both rings share a common sensing section of optical fiber path length. Certain embodiments further include fiber Bragg gratings (FBG's), circulators and couplers to be able to separate the optical signals of the two rings of the dual ring Sagnac interferometer and to perform processing of their individual signals. Embodiments are also disclosed that enable the position of a physical disturbance, the magnitude of the physical disturbance and the frequency of the physical disturbance to be known.
SCANNING ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES IN PHOTONIC BAND GAP MULTILAYERS
A device and associated methods for using surface electromagnetic waves (SEWs) generated at the surface of photonic band gap multilayers (PBGMs) in place of surface plasmons (SPs) in metal films. One device is a photonic circuit comprising a multilayer apparatus to generate surface electromagnetic waves, wherein the surface electromagnetic waves comprise the signal medium within the circuit. The circuit may be formed or etched on the surface of the multilayer apparatus.

Tunable optical device
A tunable optical device comprising an optical ring cavity and one or more pairs of electrodes for capacitive actuation of the optical tuning. Applying a potential difference to the electrodes applies a capacitive force to the optical ring cavity which changes the optical resonance frequency. The device can be used as a binary optical switch.
Driven-cavity femtosecond sources
Optical pulse sources. In one example, the pulse source includes an optical fiber ring resonator with at least one normal dispersion fiber segment characterized by a positive group velocity dispersion (GVD) per unit length and at least one anomalous dispersion fiber segment characterized by a negative GVD per unit length. In another example, the pulse source includes an optical fiber ring resonator with one or more fiber segments having a positive net group velocity dispersion (GVD); and an intracavity spectral filter optically coupled to the one or more fiber segments. The pulse source is configured to generate one or more optical solitons in the optical fiber ring resonator.

Chip-to-chip optical data communication system
An optical input/output chiplet is disposed on a first package substrate. The optical input/output chiplet includes one or more supply optical ports for receiving continuous wave light. The optical input/output chiplet includes one or more transmit optical ports through which modulated light is transmitted. The optical input/output chiplet includes one or more receive optical ports through which modulated light is received by the optical input/output chiplet. An optical power supply module is disposed on a second package substrate. The second package substrate is separate from the first package substrate. The optical power supply module includes one or more output optical ports through which continuous wave laser light is transmitted. A set of optical fibers optically connect the one or more output optical ports of the optical power supply module to the one or more supply optical ports of the optical input/output chiplet.
