Shape memory alloy actuators and methods thereof

SMA actuators and related methods are described. One embodiment of an actuator includes a base; a plurality of buckle arms; and at least a first shape memory alloy wire coupled with a pair of buckle arms of the plurality of buckle arms. Another embodiment of an actuator includes a base and at least one bimorph actuator including a shape memory alloy material. The bimorph actuator attached to the base.

ASYMMETRIC SMA ACTUATOR

An SMA actuator (10) comprising SMA wires (31, 32) in which the wire arrangement is asymmetrical, allowing a greater range of motion from a rest position in a first direction than in a second direction, which may be opposite or orthogonal to the first direction. Where the directions are opposite, the angle between a principal axis and the wires providing motion in the first direction may be different from the angle between the principal axis and the wires providing motion in the second direction.

LENS MODULE

A lens module is disclosed. In the lens module, each group of shape memory alloy wires comprises two ends fixed to one of a base and a lens base, and a drive end located between the two ends, the other one of the base and the lens base is provided with a fixing member. The drive end is connected to the fixing member. The fixing member is provided with a flapper for preventing the drive end from escaping the fixing member. By adding a flapper to the fixing member, it may effectively prevent the shape memory alloy wires from escaping the fixing member. Besides, when one group of shape memory alloy wires operates, it does not result in extra stress to other groups of shape memory alloy wires, thereby prolonging service life of the shape memory alloy wires.

OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR FOR MULTI-FIBER CABLE

Optical connector arrangements terminate at least seventy-two optical fibers. The optical connector arrangements include multiple optical ferrules that each terminates multiple optical fibers. Some example optical connectors can terminate about 144 optical fibers. Each optical connector includes a fiber take-up arrangement and a flange extending outwardly from a connector housing arrangement. The fiber take-up arrangement manages excess length of the optical fibers. A threadable coupling nut can be disposed on the connector housing arrangement to engage the outwardly extending flange. Certain types of optical connector arrangements include furcation cables spacing the connector housing arrangement form the fiber take-up arrangement.

A vascular optical fiber guidewire includes an optical fiber guidewire and a plug connected to the optical fiber guidewire. The plug may be a memory alloy plug including a handle, a fixing groove and a sleeve which are sequentially connected. A radius of a segment of the fixing groove is larger than a radius of a segment of the fixing groove. The fixing groove cooperates with an external connector to provide a locking effect. The sleeve is provided with an elastically deformable spiral structure. The memory alloy plug is sleeved on a metal tube sleeved outside the optical fiber guidewire and connected with the optical fiber guidewire. A part of the metal tube extending from the memory alloy plug forms a spiral shape by spirally cutting to protect and support the optical fiber guidewire. The insertion and extraction operations and rotating operations can be facilitated.

Optical cable assemblies having filler optical fibers and methods of fabricating the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, an optical cable assembly includes an optical cable, a plurality of filler optical fibers, and a ferrule. The optical cable includes an outer jacket and a plurality of active optical fibers disposed within the outer jacket, wherein the plurality of active optical fibers extend beyond an end of the outer jacket. Each filler optical fiber includes a first end and second end. The first end is secured to an outer surface of the outer jacket by a securing member for improving mechanical performance of the assembly. The ferrule includes an array of openings. Ends of the plurality of active optical fibers are disposed within a first subset of openings of the array of openings and the second ends of the plurality of filler optical fibers are disposed within a second subset of openings of the array of openings and are suitable for transmitting optical signals.
