Hydrogen free amorphous silicon as insulating dielectric material for superconducting quantum bits

A hydrogen-free amorphous dielectric insulating film having a high material density and a low density of tunneling states. The film is prepared by deposition of a dielectric material on a substrate having a high substrate temperature T.sub.sub under high vacuum and at a controlled low deposition rate. In one embodiment, the film is amorphous silicon while in another embodiment the film is amorphous germanium.

The insulation may include base enamel insulation and at least one layer of extruded insulation formed from a blend of at least three different polymeric materials. The enamel insulation may include either filled polyimide or filled polyamideimide. For the blend, a first polymeric material, such as polyetheretherketone, may have a thermal index above 240 C. Second and third polymeric materials, such as polyphenylsulfone and polyethersulfone, may have lower thermal indexes.

Further, the composition defines an orange surface that is characterized by a L* value of from about 55 to about 75, an a* value of from about 18 to about 38, and a b* value of from about 22 to about 42, wherein L*, a*, and b* are calculated using CIELAB units according to ASTM D2244-16.
