Strength member assemblies including a strength member and at least one glass optical fiber operatively coupled to the strength member. The optical fiber is coupled to the strength member in a manner such that mechanical strains experienced by the strength member are transferred to the optical fiber so that the optical fiber may be interrogated to assess the state of the strength member.

Disclosed is a flame retardant resin composition comprising a polyolefin resin, calcium carbonate particles blended at a ratio of 5 pts. mass to 80 pts. mass, aluminum hydroxide blended at a ratio of 50 pts. mass to 125 pts. mass, a silicone-based compound blended at a ratio of more than 1 pt. mass and 10 pts. mass or less, a fatty acid-containing compound blended at a ratio of 3 pts. mass to 20 pts. mass, and a zinc-containing inorganic compound blended at a ratio of 1 pt. mass to 7 pts. mass, all relative to 100 pts. mass of the polyolefin resin. In the flame retardant resin composition, the calcium carbonate particles and the aluminum hydroxide are blended in total at a ratio of 55 pts. mass to 130 pts. mass relative to 100 pts. mass of the polyolefin resin.

Cable assembly
A cable assembly extends in a longitudinal direction. The cable assembly comprises a first cable, two second cables, two coupling portions, an interposing portion and an outer cover. The first cable has a first conductor and a first cover. Each of the second cables has a second conductor and a second cover. The coupling portions couple the second covers, respectively, with the first cover. The first cable, the two second cables and the two coupling portions are arranged in a V-shape in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The interposing portion extends along the first cable and the two second cables and has a full length which is equal to that of each of the first cable and the two second cables. The interposing portion is brought into contact with all the first cable and the two second cables.

SELF-SUPPORTING OVERHEAD TELECOMMUNICATION/POWER CABLE
A self-supporting overhead telecommunication/power cable includes a supporting portion and a transmission portion mutually arranged according to a figure-8 configuration. The transmission portion includes at a central position thereof, an optical fibre conductor and, at a radially outer position with respect to the optical fibre conductor, electrical conductors stranded around the optical fibre conductor. Preferably, the electrical conductors are grouped into sub-units which are stranded around the optical fibre conductor to provide a mechanical protection thereto.

A self-supporting overhead telecommunication/power cable includes a supporting portion and a transmission portion mutually arranged according to a figure-8 configuration. A conductor spool with a frame is provided with a plurality of first fingers, the first fingers and the frame defining a first spool surface. The frame is provided with an entry slot and an exit slot, a retainer gasket coupled to the frame proximate each of the entry slot and the exit slot. A cover is seated upon the frame, the cover enclosing the first spool surface. The conductor spool may be included in a wire harness and conductor spool assembly, the conductor spool seated upon a conductor lead furcated from a composite cable including at least one optical and at least one electrical conductor.
