Distribution grounding switch to support distributed energy resources
A distribution grounding switch for an electricity distribution network has a first electrical terminal adapted connectable to a mains line, a second electrical terminal connectable to a lateral line, a first vacuum bottle having a pair of contactors therein, a second vacuum bottle having a pair of contactors therein, and a magnetic linkage cooperative with one of the pair of contactors of the first vacuum bottle and one of the pair of contactors of the second vacuum bottle so as to cause the pair of contactors of the first vacuum bottle the close while generally simultaneously causing the pair of contactors of the second vacuum bottle to open. The mechanical linkage also causes the pair of contactors of the first vacuum bottle to open generally simultaneously with the closing of the pair of contactors of the second vacuum bottle.
Reach tool for use in low voltage applications
A hot stick for manipulating a probe from a position a selected distance away from a workpiece, the tool including an arm, a connector coupled to the arm, the connector including a connector body having a contoured first surface, and a mechanism movable relative to the connector body and configured to cooperate with the first surface of the body to retain a probe.
FUSE CUTOUT COVER WITH VARIABLE ROOFS FOR DIFFERENT FUSE CUTOUTS
In one embodiment, a fuse cutout cover has an integral roof portion. The roof portion covers the energized top of a fuse in a first type of cutout. An attachable roof extension covers the energized top of a fuse in a larger second type of cutout, such as a Fault Tamer™ cutout. By adding the roof extension, the same cover may be used with two types of cutouts, and there is not a large gap over the fuse, preventing wildlife from entering the gap. In another embodiment, a second roof is formed over the first roof portion to accommodate different types of cutouts. Electrical insulation between wildlife and the energized cutout is also increased.
REGULATOR BYPASS SWITCHING ASSEMBLY
A bypass switching assembly includes a source terminal configured for connection to an electrical source; a load terminal configured for connection to a load; a switch including: a first electrically conductive element, a second electrically conductive element, and an electrically conductive bypass element; and an interlock assembly including: an insulator configured to rotate; and a locking assembly configured to interact with the insulator to prevent movement or permit movement of at least one of the first electrically conductive element and the second electrically conductive element.

Double walled high voltage insulator cover for mitigating leakage current
For protecting wildlife from high voltage conductors proximate to a utility pole, dielectric covers are used to cover fuse cutouts, bushings, or other connections to insulators. Such covers include a vertical slot for receiving an energized wire so the cover can be installed using a hot-stick while the wire is energized. To eliminate leakage currents flowing across the cover under high voltage conditions, which previously led to localized melting of the cover, inner walls of the cover are molded that are laterally separated from the outer walls of the cover. The double wall design eliminates leakage currents due to the extra dielectric wall and air gap, and the inner wall is not subject to contamination from conductive pollutants. The double wall design also increases the insulating properties of the cover.
EXTERNAL SWITCH COUPLER FOR PAD-MOUNTED TRANSFORMERS
An external switch coupler includes: a guide tube having a first end and a second end, the first end configured to be attached to a door of a compartment in substantial alignment with both a hole in the door and a switch coupler within the compartment, and the second end configured to be disposed within an interior of the compartment and separated from the switch coupler by a gap when the door is closed; a coupling shaft configured to be operably placed within the guide tube, the coupling shaft having an electrically insulative member disposed between an coupler side adapter and a switch side adapter, and a length equal to or greater than a distance between the switch coupler and the hole in the door when the door is closed.
DIELECTRIC COVER FOR HIGH VOLTAGE COMPONENT WITH HOOD OVER HOLE FOR RETAINING PIN
For protecting wildlife from electrocution by high voltage components, dielectric covers are used to cover fuse cutouts, insulators, or other high voltage components. The cover includes through-holes for receiving retaining pins to secure the cover in place. The holes are the weak link in flashover prevention since the holes form an air gap, which has a breakdown voltage lower than that of the cover material. To prevent a bird's wing or a squirrel's tail from directly covering the hole in the surface of the cover, an arched or tubular hood is formed around each hole to block the bird or squirrel from directly covering the hole, reducing the risk of a flashover through the hole. The hoods extend out about 1-1.5 inches to essentially add a 1-1.5 inch air gap between the animal and the hole without enlarging the cover.
FUSE CUTOUT COVER WITH SPACER FOR LOADBREAK TOOL
A fuse cutout cover is disclosed that allows a lineman to engage a metal hook assembly and pull ring of the cutout with a loadbreak tool. The cutout also includes a wire connector and a metal top connector that leads from the wire connector to the top of the fuse. A front opening in the cover allows easy access by a loadbreak tool over a wide range of angles. A roof of the cover extends beyond the sidewalls of the opening and covers an end of the top connector. An inner vertical wall of the cover has a bottom edge that rests on the top surface of the top connector to space the roof from the top connector to provide additional vertical clearance when positioning the loadbreak tool to engage the cutout. The wall also blocks access to the enlarged open to prevent birds from nesting in the opening.
