Dynamic polarization and coupling control from a steerable multi-layered cylindrically fed holographic antenna
An apparatus is disclosed herein for a cylindrically fed antenna and method for using the same. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises: an antenna feed to input a cylindrical feed wave; a first layer coupled to the antenna feed and into which the feed wave propagates outwardly and concentrically from the feed; a second layer coupled to the first layer to cause the feed wave to be reflected at edges of the antenna and propagate inwardly through the second layer from the edges of the antenna; and a radio-frequency (RF) array coupled to the second layer, wherein the feed wave interacts with the RF array to generate a beam.
System and method for return end-to-end beamforming
Methods and systems are described for providing end-to-end beamforming. For example, end-to-end beamforming systems include end-to-end relays and ground networks to provide communications to user terminals located in user beam coverage areas. The ground segment can include geographically distributed access nodes and a central processing system. Return uplink signals, transmitted from the user terminals, have multipath induced by a plurality of receive/transmit signal paths in the end to end relay and are relayed to the ground network. The ground network, using beamformers, recovers user data streams transmitted by the user terminals from return downlink signals. The ground network, using beamformers generates forward uplink signals from appropriately weighted combinations of user data streams that, after relay by the end-end-end relay, produce forward downlink signals that combine to form user beams.
System and method for miniaturized cell tower antenna arrays and highly directional electronic communication
A solution to the growing customer demand on cell tower signal capacity is needed. As such, a directional antenna for cellular communication, a communications system using the directional antenna, and a method of communicating using the directional antenna are provided herein. In one example, the directional antenna includes: (1) a Luneburg lens having a spherical shape, and (2) a curved substrate that conforms to the spherical shape of the Luneburg lens, the curved substrate having a feed network of signal conveyors affixed to a front side and a ground plane back side, wherein the signal conveyors are aligned with the Luneburg lens to communicate radio frequency signals within a sector.
Lens antenna array system with multiple near-field communication links
A lens antenna array system for wireless communication is provided that includes a lens antenna array transmitter having a first lens and a lens antenna array receiver having a second lens. The lens antenna array transmitter transmits a plurality of RF signals across a plurality of near-field communication links to the lens antenna array receiver.
Multiple antenna system and method for mobile platforms
A method and system facilitate communication between a constellation of satellites and a mobile platform-mounted mobile communicator. The method and system may include the use of a first antenna suited for operation using a first frequency band in a first geographic region and a second antenna suited for operation using either the first or a second frequency band in a second geographic region. The method and system may use a controller to determine which antenna to activate based on one or more of a geographic indicator or a signal indicator. The system used by the method to facilitate the communication may have one or more enclosures over the antennas and controller for mounting to a mobile platform.
