Configurable antenna arrangements

An apparatus is provided that includes a set of antenna elements and switching nodes. Each switching node has physical interconnects to a sub-set of the antenna elements for transferring communication signals and the switching nodes have physical interconnects to other switching nodes forming a network of switching nodes for transferring communication signals between switching nodes. The apparatus also includes a controller for controlling operation of switching nodes to control use of the physical interconnects between switching nodes and control creation of different patterns of antenna elements operationally interconnected via multiple operationally interconnected switching nodes.

Millimeter wave phased array

A wave phased array is manufactured using additive manufacturing technology (AMT). The wave phased array includes a radiator, a radiator dilation layer supporting the radiator, a beamformer supporting the radiator dilation layer, a beamformer dilation layer supporting the beamformer, and a substrate support layer supporting the beamformer dilation layer. At least one of the radiator, the radiator dilation layer, the beamformer, the beamformer dilation layer and the substrate support layer is fabricated at least in part by an AMT process.

Millimeter wave phased array

A wave phased array is manufactured using additive manufacturing technology (AMT). The wave phased array includes a radiator, a radiator dilation layer supporting the radiator, a beamformer supporting the radiator dilation layer, a beamformer dilation layer supporting the beamformer, and a substrate support layer supporting the beamformer dilation layer. At least one of the radiator, the radiator dilation layer, the beamformer, the beamformer dilation layer and the substrate support layer is fabricated at least in part by an AMT process.

The transceiver has a first antenna array including a first sub-aperture with a first native beam steering angle and a second antenna array including a second sub-aperture with a second native beam steering angle different than the first native beam steering angle. The first antenna array and the second antenna array are arranged in the transceiver such that the first sub-aperture is combinable with the second sub-aperture to form a combined aperture when the first antenna array and the second antenna array are excited.

In an embodiment, an apparatus includes a transmit section including a first baseband section and a first radio frequency (RF) section, wherein the transmit section is configured to receive a calibration signal, the first RF section is configured to generate a RF calibration signal based on modulating the calibration signal. The calibration signal comprises an orthogonal code based signal; and a receive section configured to receive the RF calibration signal over-the-air, the receive section includes a second RF section and a calibration section, the second RF section is configured to generate a received calibration signal based on the RF calibration signal, the received calibration signal and a reference signal associated with the RF calibration signal comprise inputs to the calibration section and the calibration section is configured to determine one or more of gain, baseband delay, or RF delay compensation values, based on the inputs, to calibrate the transmit section.

In an embodiment, a communications system includes a first transmitter including a digital beamforming baseband section configured to receive an input signal to be transmitted, the input signal at a baseband frequency, and a modulation section electrically coupled to the digital beamforming baseband section and a first antenna of a phased array antenna. The modulation section is configured to receive a local oscillator signal at a first local oscillator frequency and apply a baseband frequency shift to the input signal to generate a baseband frequency shifted input signal. The modulation section generates a modulated signal based on the input signal. The communication system includes a second transmitter included in a second IC chip of the plurality of IC chips electrically coupled to a second antenna and configured to provide a second modulated signal at the carrier frequency and a second LO leakage signal at a second local oscillator frequency.

The present disclosure relates to a phased array antenna module. The phased array antenna module comprises: multiple antenna units, each of which comprises a first antenna electrode part, a second antenna electrode part spaced apart from the first antenna electrode part, a sensing electrode part electrically connected to the second antenna electrode part, and a ground electrode part spaced apart from the first antenna electrode part with the second antenna electrode part interposed therebetween; a capacitance sensing part to which the sensing electrode part is connected and which senses at least one among the capacitance change between the first antenna electrode part and the second antenna electrode part, the capacitance change between the first antenna electrode part and the ground electrode part, and the capacitance change between the second antenna electrode part and the ground electrode part, and outputs a capacitance sensing signal; and a module control part which is electrically connected to the capacitance sensing part and the second antenna electrode part of each of the antenna units, and controls the antenna units on the basis of the capacitance sensing signal generated by the capacitance sensing part.
