Impedance matching for an aperture antenna

A method and apparatus for impedance matching for an antenna aperture are described. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises an antenna aperture having at least one array of antenna elements operable to radiate radio frequency (RF) energy and an integrated composite stack structure coupled to the antenna aperture. The integrated composite stack structure includes a wide angle impedance matching network to provide impedance matching between the antenna aperture and free space and also puts dipole loading on antenna elements.

Waveguide antennas and corresponding manufacturing methods are described herein. These include dual-linear antennas. These dual-linear antennas provide efficient transmission and reception of two radio-frequency signals that may be polarized in orthogonal orientations. The electrically conducting features within the dual-linear antenna are manufactured using standard printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing technology. The final outer form of the dielectric waveguide antenna may be machined by turning on a lathe or similar mechanical technique, cast in a mold, or injection molded, and the final outer form is accurately aligned and registered to the radio-frequency features of the PCB. The dual-polarized antenna device may include multiple pairs of parallel slot antennas fabricated within a planar printed circuit.

Disclosed is an electronic device including a housing having a first plate, a second plate facing in a direction opposite to the first plate, and a side surface member surrounding a space between the first plate and the second plate and including a conductive portion, a communication module, and an antenna structure electrically connected with the communication module, wherein the antenna structure includes at least one first antenna element formed in the conductive portion and including a first slot having a first portion extending in a first length in a first direction and a second portion extending in a second length in a second direction different from the first direction, and at least one second antenna element formed in a position spaced apart by a predetermined distance from the first antenna element in the conductive portion and including at least one second slot having a fourth portion extending in the first length in the first direction and a fifth portion extending in the second length in a third direction different from the second direction.
