A method of producing a laser diode bar includes producing a plurality of emitters arranged side by side, emitters each including a semiconductor layer sequence having an active layer that generates laser radiation, a p-contact on a first main surface of the laser diode bar and an n-contact on a second main surface of the laser diode bar opposite the first main surface, testing at least one optical and/or electrical property of the emitters, wherein emitters in which the optical and/or electrical property lies within a predetermined setpoint range are assigned to a group of first emitters, and emitters in which the at least one optical and/or electrical property lies outside the predetermined setpoint range are assigned to a group of second emitters, and electrically contacting first emitters, wherein second emitters are not electrically contacted so that they are not supplied with current during operation of the laser diode bar.

A light emitting device includes: a base portion comprising: an upward-facing surface, and a frame defining an inner lateral surface; a plurality of semiconductor laser elements arranged on the upward-facing surface and surrounded by the frame; a cover portion supported by the frame and disposed above the plurality of semiconductor laser elements; and a protrusion extending from a lower surface of the cover portion toward the upward-facing surface. Light emitted from each of the plurality of semiconductor laser elements is incident on a lateral surface of the protrusion, passes through the protrusion, is reflected at the boundary surface, and is transmitted through the cover portion.

Double-sided cooling of laser diodes

Methods, devices, and systems for double-sided cooling of laser diodes are provided. In one aspect, a laser diode assembly includes a first heat sink, a plurality of submounts spaced apart from one another on the first heat sink, a plurality of laser diodes, and a second heat sink on top sides of the plurality of laser diodes. Each laser diode includes a corresponding active layer between a first-type doped semiconductor layer and a second-type doped semiconductor layer. A bottom side of each laser diode is positioned on a different corresponding submount of the plurality of submounts. The plurality of laser diode are electrically connected in series.

Integrated laser source

Integrated laser sources emitting multi-wavelengths of light with reduced thermal transients and crosstalk and methods for operating thereof are disclosed. The integrated laser sources can include one or more heaters and a temperature control system to maintain a total thermal load of the gain segment, the heater(s), or both of a given laser to be within a range based on a predetermined target value. The system can include electrical circuitry configured to distribute current to the gain segment, the heater(s), or both. The heater(s) can be located proximate to the gain segment, and the distribution of current can be based on the relative locations. In some examples, the central laser can be heated prior to being activated. In some examples, one or more of the plurality of lasers can operate in a subthreshold operation mode when the laser is not lasing to minimize thermal perturbations to proximate lasers.

Fiber delivered laser induced white light system

The present disclosure provides an apparatus for generating fiber delivered laser-induced white light. The apparatus includes a package case enclosing a board member with an electrical connector through a cover member and a laser module configured to the board member inside the package case. The laser module comprises a support member, at least one laser diode device configured to emit a laser light of a first wavelength, a set of optics to guide the laser light towards an output port. Additionally, the apparatus includes a fiber assembly configured to receive the laser light from the output port for further delivering to a light head member disposed in a remote destination. A phosphor material disposed in the light head member receives the laser light exited from the fiber assembly to induce a phosphor emission of a second wavelength for producing a white light emission substantially reflected therefrom for various applications.

Light source unit

A light source unit includes: a sealed semiconductor laser package including a laser diode that includes an emitter region from which laser light is emitted, the emitter region located at a surface of the laser diode, and a window member configured to transmit the laser light; a first lens structure configured to receive the laser light transmitted through the window member and create an image of the emitter region on an image plane; and a second lens structure configured to convert the laser light having passed through the image plane into a collimated or converged beam, and to emit the collimated or converged beam.

Systems and methods for optical injection-locking in an access network

An injection locking laser source is provided for an optical communications system. The injection locking laser source includes a laser cavity configured to receive an externally injected low linewidth primary light source. The laser cavity includes a cavity length, a cavity facet reflectivity, and a cavity quality factor. The injection locking laser source further includes an emitting region configured to output a secondary light source injection locked to the externally injected low linewidth primary light source at a stable detuning frequency based on a photon number, a steady-state phase, and a carrier number of the primary light source injected into the cavity.

CHIRPED BRAGG GRATING ELEMENTS

Apparatus and methods for altering one or more spectral, spatial, or temporal characteristics of a light-emitting device are disclosed. Generally, such apparatus may include a volume Bragg grating (VBG) element that receives input light generated by a light-emitting device, conditions one or more characteristics of the input light, and causes the light-emitting device to generate light having the one or more characteristics of the conditioned light.

LASER DEVICE

A laser device has a plurality of laser diodes; a plurality of optical elements installed corresponding to the plurality of the laser diodes; a plurality of units formed by fixing the laser diodes and the optical elements per each laser diode and installed corresponding to the plurality of the laser diodes; a converging element that converges laser beams emitted from the plurality of the laser diodes to a fiber; a housing element houses the plurality of the units and the converging element; and a thermal transfer plate performs heat dissipation of the plurality of the units. The heat resistance reducing element having a heat resistance value that is smaller than a predetermined value is installed between the thermal transfer plate and each unit or the processing for reducing the heat resistance is performed.
