Connection enclosure assemblies, connector systems and methods for forming an enclosed connection between conductors
An enclosed connection system for mechanically and electrically connecting first and second cables, the cables each including an elongate electrical conductor covered by an insulation layer, includes an insulation piercing connector and an enclosure. The insulation piercing connector includes at least one electrically conductive piercing member and a clamping mechanism. The clamping mechanism is configured and operable to force the at least one piercing member through the insulation layers of the first and second cables and into electrical engagement with the conductors of the first and second cables such that the conductors of the first and second cables are electrically connected to one another through the at least one piercing member. The enclosure is configured to receive and cover the connection and to protect the insulation piercing connector.
ELECTRICAL COMPONENT ENCLOSURE WITH INJECTED SEAL AND METHOD
An enclosure and method for an electrical component having a base portion and a cover portion. The base portion has a first channel which extends about at least a portion of a periphery of the base portion. The cover portion has a second channel which extends about at least a portion of a periphery of the cover portion. The second channel is aligned with the first channel to form a sealant receiving channel. A sealant is provided in the sealant receiving channel. The cover portion has at least one inlet opening configured to receive the sealant as the sealant is injected into the sealant receiving channel. The cover portion has at least one outlet opening configured to allow excess sealant of the sealant to escape from the sealant receiving channel as the sealant is injected into the sealant receiving channel.
METHOD OF SEALING OFF A CUT OFF END OF A SUBSEA CABLE SECTION
While laying a subsea cable, an exposed cut off end of the cable is exposed to water prior to permanently sealing off this cable end. To prevent damage to the cable due to contact with the often salt water, due to for example oxidation, a temporarily watertight seal is to be applied to the cut off end. A method for applying this seal is provided which comprises applying a mouldable sealant to the exposed end wherein the sealant acts as a watertight barrier between the water and the cut off end of the cable. The sealant may comprise an intermediate layer between the cut off end and a watertight outer layer arranged to increase adhesion between the cut off end and the outer layer. This allows a broader range of outer layer materials to be used as the outer layer material does not need to adhere directly with the cable.
Cable Joint Assembly
A cable joint assembly and a method for assembling such a cable joint assembly. The cable joint assembly joins at least two cable ends, said cable joint assembly comprising a cable joint defining an interior space into which in use said at least two cable ends extend and are joined and which in use is filled with a liquid, wherein said cable joint assembly further comprises a barrier element that is placeable in said interior space in such a manner, that in use the barrier element extends around the at least two cable ends at least in an area where the at least two cable ends are joined.
Butt closures and bases therefor
A butt closure base includes a base housing defining a plurality of cavities. A first gel is disposed in each of the plurality of cavities. The butt closure base further includes a plurality of wedge assemblies, each of the plurality of wedge assemblies removably insertable into one of the plurality of cavities. Each of the plurality of wedge assemblies includes an outer cover, a second gel, and a main pressure plate in contact with the second gel. The main pressure plate is movable along a longitudinal axis to apply pressure to the second gel. Each of the plurality of wedge assemblies further includes a latch assembly. The latch assembly includes an adjustable tab and a stop member movable between a first position which limits movement of the adjustable tab and a second position in which movement of the adjustable tab is not limited by the stop member.
WIRE HARNESS AND WIRE HARNESS MANUFACTURING METHOD
A wire harness including: a wire bundle that includes a plurality of wires, each wire of the plurality of wires includes a conductor and an insulating covering that covers an outer circumference of the conductor, and each wire of the plurality of wires includes an exposed portion at which the conductor is exposed from the insulating covering; a splice body; and a waterproofing cover, wherein: at the splice body, the exposed portions of the wires forming the wire bundle are bonded to each other, a portion of the wire bundle that is adjacent to the splice body and at which the conductors are covered by the insulating coverings is a covered region, the waterproofing cover integrally covers the splice body and the covered region with a resin material.
WIRE HARNESS
A wire harness including: a first wire bundle that includes a plurality of wires; a second wire bundle that includes fewer wires than the first wire bundle; a splice body; and a waterproofing cover, wherein: the wires of the first wire bundle and the second wire bundle each include a conductor and an insulating covering that covers an outer circumference of the conductor, and each include an exposed portion at which the conductor is exposed from the insulating covering, at the splice body, the exposed portions of the first wire bundle and the exposed portions of the second wire bundle are bonded, and the waterproofing cover integrally covers the splice body, the outer surfaces of the insulating coverings of the first wire bundle, and the outer surfaces of the insulating covering of the second wire bundle with a resin material.
WIRE HARNESS
A wire harness including: a wire that includes a conductor and an insulating covering that covers an outer circumference of the conductor, and that includes an exposed portion at which the conductor is exposed from the insulating covering; and a waterproofing cover that integrally covers the exposed portion and an outer surface of the insulating covering with a resin material, wherein a covering length, which is a length of a region in which the waterproofing cover covers the insulating covering, is greater than or equal to a length at which a maximum thermal stress at an edge of the waterproofing cover that is in contact with the insulating covering is equal to an adhesive strength of the resin material with respect to the insulating covering.
Cable gland including internal dam
A cable gland includes a cavity having first and second axial ends and configured to receive one or more conductors and a curable liquid therein, and an internal dam. The internal dam is adjacent the second axial end of the cavity. The internal dam includes an annular filament holder and a plurality of filaments secured to and extending radially inward from the annular filament holder to receive the one or more conductors to inhibit curable liquid from flowing through the dam and between the dam and the one or more conductors of a cable.
