A method and circuit for protecting circuit elements in a traffic control system from an overcurrent condition. In accordance with an embodiment, the circuit includes a current sensing element, a switching element, and a microcontroller. The circuit monitors first and second operating parameters and compares the first operating parameter with a first reference parameter and the second operating parameter with a second reference parameter. In response to the first operating parameter exceeding the first reference parameter and the second operating parameter exceeding the second reference parameter, the microcontroller generates a control signal to open the switching element.

Method and apparatus for locating faults in an islanded microgrid

A fault isolating device for use in a microgrid disconnected from a main power grid includes a voltage meter for detecting a voltage anomaly indicative of an electrical fault, a timer for establishing a time window that begins and ends a predetermined time after a voltage anomaly is detected, a switch that is opened at the start of the time window, and a microcontroller that determines whether to leave the switch open to isolate a faulted portion of the microgrid or to close the switch. A plurality of fault isolating devices can be distributed throughout a microgrid to isolate a faulted branch or faulted branches of an islanded microgrid without interfering with normal fuse operation when the microgrid is connected to the main power grid.

Fault detection for a solid state power converter

In some examples, this disclosure describes a method for detecting a fault in an electrical power system comprising a bus connected between a first solid state power converter and a second solid state power converter. The method includes receiving, at a controller of the electrical power system, a first signal indicating a current at a source side of the first solid state power converter, wherein the source side of the first solid state power converter is connected to a power source of the electrical power system. The method also includes receiving, at the controller, a second signal indicating a current at the bus and determining, by the controller, that a fault occurred in the electrical power system based on the first signal and further based on the second signal. The method further includes controlling the first solid state power converter in response to determining that the fault occurred.

Battery secondary protection circuit and mode switching method thereof

A battery secondary protection circuit and a mode switching method thereof are disclosed. The battery secondary protection circuit is coupled in series with a battery primary protection circuit and has a power pin and a sensing pin. The switching method includes steps of: (S1) determining whether a voltage difference between the power pin and the sensing pin is greater than a default value; and (S2) selectively switching the battery secondary protection circuit to a first mode or a second mode according to a determination result of the step (S1). The battery secondary protection circuit delays a first delay time and a second delay time in the first mode and the second mode respectively and then performs a circuit protection operation. The first delay time is longer than the second delay time.
