SMART SELF-FEEDING FUSE WITH CURRENT DETECTION AND COMMUNICATION
A smart, self-feeding fuse with current detection and communication capabilities for use in overhead medium voltage electrical distribution networks (15 kV to 34 kV). The device is configured to detect transient or permanent electric faults (sensor), and/or to be used as a communication device (gateway) that preserves the main protection function of the fuse element. The device is assembled on a base fuse and is simply installed by using a maneuver pole, similarly to the installation of a conventional fuse tube. The invention is self-fed by a high output current transformer with the help of photovoltaic cells, using a supercapacitor bank as the only power storage element.
SOLID-STATE POWER INTERRUPTERS
A power interrupter device includes a solid-state bidirectional switch and control circuitry to control the solid-state bidirectional switch. The bidirectional switch is connected between input and output terminals of the power interrupter device. The control circuitry includes driver circuitry and fault detection circuitry. The driver circuitry generates a regulated direct current (DC) voltage using current drawn from an input power source applied to the input terminal and applies the regulated DC voltage to a control input of the bidirectional switch. The fault detection circuitry is configured to sense a level of load current flowing in an electrical path between the input and output terminals, to detect an occurrence of a fault condition based on the sensed load current level, and to short the control input of the bidirectional switch to place the bidirectional switch in a switched-off state, in response to detecting the occurrence of a fault condition.

The supplementary power supply circuit is configured to isolate itself from the main power supply circuit when the supplementary power supply circuit detects a short circuit condition at the secondary circuit. The supplementary power supply circuit is configured to rejoin the main power supply circuit and supply power to the secondary circuit, when the short circuit condition is remedied.

A circuit breaker, for interrupting an electrical circuit including electrical conductors, includes an energy converter, a primary side being formed by a conductor and a secondary side being connected to a power supply; a sensor for determining the level of the electric current of an electrical conductor; and a controller, connected to the power supply and the sensor, to cause an interruption of the electrical circuit when current limit values or current/time period limit values are exceeded. The secondary side of the energy converter is connected to the input of a measurement circuit, the output of the energy converter being connected to the controller. The measurement circuit determines an amount of energy and delivers this to the controller, the controller comparing the amount of energy with the level of the current determined by the sensor and emitting a warning signal when a first threshold value is exceeded.
