RELAY PROTECTION SYSTEM
Provided herein are improved relay protection systems that can detect a short to ground condition on an output of a relay. A relay protection system can bias an output of the relay. The output of the relay can be monitored to determine if a bias level reduces below a predetermined threshold, indicating a short to ground condition. If a short to ground condition is detected, the relay protection system can prevent the relay from transitioning from an open position to a closed position. As a result, a power source can remain decoupled from a load, thereby preventing damage to the relay and the load.
Breaker design for power system resiliency
An autonomous breaker can apply a current through a high impedance source to a bus coupled to either end of a breaker in order to measure an impedance of the bus. The status of the bus can be determined from the measurement. Based on the determined status, a fault detection procedure can be selected and implemented to determine if a fault exists on the bus. When the fault detection procedure has been implemented and no fault has been detected, the breaker can close, and thus couple the bus to another bus.
Remote power unit, direct current power system and direct current power system fault detection method
A remote power unit for providing direct current power to a remote power receiver in a direct current power system is provided. A residual current protection circuit comprises a first switch, which opens a positive voltage rail, and a second switch, which open a negative voltage rail. A first current sensor measures a first residual current between the first switch and the remote power receiver, while the first switch is closed and the second switch is opened. A second current sensor measures a second residual current between the second switch and the remote power receiver, while the second switch is closed and the first switch is open. A controller detects a residual current event, if the first residual current and/or the second residual current are above a residual current threshold.
Fail-safe operating method for a decentralized power generation plant
A fail-safe operating method for a decentralized power generation plant DG includes determining a leakage capacitance of a generator of the DG before connecting the DG. The method also includes comparing the determined leakage capacitance with a predetermined first limit value, and connecting the DG to a grid only if the determined leakage capacitance is smaller than the predetermined first limit value. A decentralized power generation plant is configured to perform the method.
Control Method for Current-Limiting Control Circuit and Electrical System
The present disclosure provides a control method for a current-limiting control circuit and an electrical system. The current-limiting control circuit includes a high voltage side connected with a direct-current (DC) bus, a low voltage side connected with a load, and a regulating unit connected with the high voltage side and the low voltage side, the regulating unit including at least one MOS transistor, and the control method includes: detecting current I.sub.0 of the current-limiting control circuit; determining whether the current I.sub.0 is greater than a preset current I; and determining that the current-limiting control circuit has a short circuit fault, and entering a current limiting control mode to limit a persistent growth of the current, in a case where the current I.sub.0 is greater than the preset current I.
Circuits to identify protection device failures
Examples herein relate to an apparatus. In some examples, an apparatus may include a circuit to direct a power signal to at least one electrical component. The circuit may include a protection device to regulate power to the electrical component, detection circuitry to detect when the protection device has failed, and an alert handling logic to receive a signal from the detection circuitry that the protection device has failed.
MOTOR LEAKAGE CURRENT DETECTOR, DEVICES USING SAME AND RELATED METHODS
A motor leakage current detector and/or a heat compensating circuit, devices using same and related methods are disclosed herein. Included are a uniquely wired current transformer to allow for polarity agnostic leakage current detection, a leakage current detector using same and having a notifier to alert a user. In other forms, an accessory power cord and power strip are disclosed capable of detecting early motor failure conditions. In still other forms, other machinery failure early warning systems are disclosed as are numerous motor operated devices using same including without limitation pumps.
Method for detecting an isolation fault
A method for detecting an isolation fault in an isolation resistance between a positive and negative high-voltage bus rail and a vehicle chassis on a high-voltage propulsion side of a high-voltage system of an electric or hybrid-electric vehicle. The high-voltage system is split into a battery side and propulsion side by means of two high-voltage contactors located in the positive and negative high-voltage bus rails. The propulsion side includes first and second capacitors connected in series across the positive and negative bus rails, a common junction of the first and second capacitors connected to the chassis. The method supplies a low-voltage output to the positive and negative bus rails to charge the capacitors; and determines, based on charging current, voltage level or energy level of the capacitors, whether an isolation fault is present between the positive and/or negative high-voltage bus rail and the vehicle chassis on the propulsion side.
Heater status monitor
An appliance having a heater connectable to a power source to create a heater circuit is disclosed. The appliance includes a controller and a heater switch configured to be selectively closed in response to a control signal from the controller to complete the heater circuit and enable current to flow from the power source to the electric heater. The appliance further includes a heater feedback circuit comprising a plurality of resistors and configured to be connected to the power source and further configured to generate an output signal to the controller having a first state indicative of no current leakage from the heater circuit, a second state indicative of current leakage from the heater circuit where the polarity of the power source is normal, and a third state indicative of current leakage from the heater circuit where the polarity of the power source is reversed. The controller may determine whether current leakage exists in the heater circuit, regardless of the polarity of the grid lines from the power source. The controller may take various actions in response to such determination.
System and method for short detection in a computing device
A computing device includes a module that connects to a main board and a short detector. The short detector applies a voltage to a first electrical contact of the module; while the voltage is applied: makes a comparison of a second voltage on a second electrical contact of the module to the voltage; makes a determination, based on the comparison, that the first electrical contact is connected to the second electrical contact via a short circuit; and in response to the determination, initiates remediation of the short circuit.
