DEVICES AND METHODS RELATED TO COMPENSATED POWER DETECTOR
In some embodiments, a compensated power detector can include a power detector that includes a first detection cell having a bias input and an output, and a second detection cell having a signal input, a bias input and an output. The power detector can further include an error amplifier having a first input coupled to the output of the first detection cell, and a second input for receiving a reference voltage. The error amplifier can be configured to provide an output voltage to each of the bias inputs of the first and second detection cells, such that an output of the second detection cell is representative of power of a radio-frequency signal received at the signal input with an adjustment for one or more non-signal effects as measured by the first detection cell and the error amplifier.
Systems and Methods for Optimizing Amplifier Operations
Methods and systems for optimizing amplifier operations are described. The described methods and systems particularly describe a feed-forward control circuit that may also be used as a feed-back control circuit in certain applications. The feed-forward control circuit provides a control signal that may be used to configure an amplifier in a variety of ways.

Apparatus and methods for true power detection are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a power amplifier system includes an antenna, a directional coupler, and a power amplifier electrically connected to the antenna by way of a through line of the directional coupler. The power amplifier system further includes a first switch, a second switch, and a combiner that combines a first coupled signal received from a first end of the directional coupler's coupled line through the first switch and a second coupled signal received from a second end of the directional coupler's coupled line through the second switch.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR ENVELOPE TRACKING
Envelope tracking systems for power amplifiers are provided herein. In certain embodiments, an envelope tracker is provided for a power amplifier that amplifies an RF signal. The envelope tracker includes a multi-level switching circuit having an output that provides an output current that changes in relation to an envelope signal indicating an envelope of the RF signal when the envelope tracker is operating in an envelope tracking mode. The multi-level switching circuit includes a multi-level supply (MLS) modulator that receives multiple regulated voltages of different voltage levels, and an MLS control circuit that controls the selection of the MLS modulator over time based on the envelope signal. When transitioning the MLS modulator from selection of one regulated voltage level to another regulated voltage level, the MLS control circuit provides a soft transition to gradually switch the regulated voltage levels.
Supply voltage circuit for reducing in-rush battery current in an envelope tracking integrated circuit
A supply voltage circuit for reducing in-rush battery current in an envelope tracking (ET) integrated circuit (ETIC) is provided. The ETIC includes an ET voltage circuit configured to generate a time-variant ET voltage, which includes an offset voltage, in multiple time intervals based on a supply voltage. In some cases, the offset voltage and the supply voltage may both need to be increased or decreased as the time-variant ET voltage increases or decreases. As the offset voltage and the supply voltage increase or decrease, an excessive in-rush battery current may result in a reduced battery life. In this regard, a supply voltage circuit is configured to help the ETIC to adapt the supply voltage on a per-symbol basis. As a result, it is possible to reduce the in-rush battery current in the ETIC while still allowing the time-variant ET voltage to change in a timely manner.
Power detector including squaring circuits
In certain aspects, a method is provided for measuring power using a resistive element coupled between a power amplifier and an antenna. The method includes squaring a voltage from a first terminal of the resistive element to obtain a first signal, squaring a voltage from a second terminal of the resistive element to obtain a second signal, and generating a measurement signal based on a difference between the first signal and the second signal. In some implementations, the resistive element is implemented with a power switch.

One example envelope detection circuit generally includes a first diode, a capacitive element, and a clamping circuit. The first diode has an anode coupled to an input node of the envelope detection circuit and has a cathode coupled to an output node of the envelope detection circuit. The capacitive element is coupled in shunt between the output node and a reference potential node, and the clamping circuit is coupled in shunt between the input node and the reference potential node. The clamping circuit generally includes a resistive element coupled in series with a second diode.
Temperature compensation technique for envelope tracking system
Disclosed is an envelope tracking (ET) system having a transmit (TX) section, a power amplifier (PA), a fast switched-mode power supply (Fast SMPS), and control circuitry. The TX section receives an input signal and provides a modulated signal to the PA. The TX section also generates an ET signal based on a modulation envelope of the modulated signal. The TX section provides an envelope control (EC) signal based on the ET signal to modulate a supply signal provided to the PA by the Fast SMPS. The control circuitry provides a transmit TX gain signal and an ET gain signal to the TX section based on a PA temperature signal, a TX temperature signal, a target power signal, a measured power signal. The control circuitry is configured to maintain the efficiency and linearity of the PA over a wide operating temperature range.
