A front-end module including a power amplifier, first and second couplers, an antenna switch, and a switch sub-assembly. The power amplifier has an input to receive a radio frequency signal and an output to provide an amplified radio frequency signal. The first coupler has an input port coupled to the output of the power amplifier, an output port coupled to an input of the antenna switch, a coupled port, and an isolated port. The second coupler has an input port coupled to an output of the antenna switch, an output port coupled to an antenna port, a coupled port, and an isolated port. The switch sub assembly connects one of the coupled port and the isolated port of the second coupler to an output of the switch assembly and the other one of the coupled port and the isolated port of the second coupler to a first termination impedance.

Methods and apparatus are provided. In an example aspect, a method of operating an amplifier circuit is provided. The amplifier circuit comprises a first amplifier configured to receive a first signal, a balanced amplifier comprising second and third amplifiers and configured to receive a second signal, and a first directional coupler. An output of the first amplifier is connected to a transmitted port of the first directional coupler, an output of the second amplifier is connected to an input port of the first directional coupler, an output of the third amplifier is connected to an isolated port of the first directional coupler, and a coupled port of the first directional coupler is connected to an output of the amplifier circuit. The method comprises operating the amplifier circuit in a first output peak amplitude range of the amplifier circuit wherein, in the first output peak amplitude range, the first signal is based on a signal to be amplified and has an amplitude that increases across the first output peak amplitude range from substantially zero to a first amplitude, and the second signal is substantially zero, and operating the amplifier circuit in a second output peak amplitude range of the amplifier circuit, wherein the second output peak amplitude range is higher than the first output peak amplitude range and wherein, in the second output peak amplitude range, the first signal is based on the signal to be amplified and has an amplitude that decreases across the second output peak amplitude range from the first amplitude to a second amplitude, and the second signal is based on the signal to be amplified and has an amplitude that increases across the second output peak amplitude range from a third amplitude to a fourth amplitude.

A load modulation amplifier is disclosed having a first amplifier and a second amplifier. An input quadrature coupler and an output quadrature coupler are coupled between the first amplifier and the second amplifier. A splitter has a first splitter output, a splitter input coupled to a signal input, and a second splitter output coupled to a second port of the input quadrature coupler, and a variable attenuator is coupled between the first splitter output and a first port of the input quadrature coupler. An attenuation controller has a controller output that is coupled to an attenuation control input of the variable attenuator, wherein the attenuation controller autonomously generates a control signal in response to a power sample signal in proportion to a radio frequency signal received at the radio frequency signal input.

There is provided a quasi-circulator. The quasi-circulator includes: a first coupler having an input end connected to a transmission end; a first amplifier having an input end connected to an output end of the first coupler; a second amplifier having an input end connected to the output end of the first coupler; a second coupler having one end connected to an output end of the first amplifier and an output end of the second amplifier, and the other end connected to an antenna; and a third coupler having one end connected to the output end of the first amplifier and the output end of the second amplifier, and the other end connected to a reception end. Accordingly, a loss occurring at the quasi-circulator is minimized, and eventually, efficiency of an RF FEM employed in an ultrahigh frequency radar system is enhanced.

A feedforward amplifier comprises a power amplifier that generates an amplified signal, an error correcting circuitry that generates a first error signal and a second error signal based on an error in the amplified signal; and an output circuitry. The output circuitry comprises: a first quadrature coupler, an output of a first error amplifier is connected to the quadrature coupler and an input of the first error amplifier is configured to receive the first error signal, and an output of a second error amplifier is connected to the quadrature coupler and an input of the second error amplifier is configured to receive the second error signal. The output circuitry generates an error compensation signal in the first quadrature coupler from the output signals of the first and second error amplifiers.

Systems and apparatuses are disclosed that include a modular power amplifier having a power amplifier subsystem with a first 90 degree hybrid block configured to receive an RF signal and output a split RF signal with components having a 90 degree phase shift, a second 90 degree hybrid block configured to receive and combine the split RF signal by removing the 90 degree phase shift, a high-power amplifier configured to amplify at least one of the components of the split RF signal. The modular power amplifier also includes a power distribution module configured to regulate an amount of power input to the high-power amplifier and a power sequencer configured to control the timing of power delivery by the power distribution module. Three-dimensional power amplifiers having a first high-power amplifier and a second high-power amplifier having different orientations causing a reduction in electromagnetic interference are also disclosed.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SWITCHING A FREQUENCY RANGE OF A HIGH FREQUENCY AMPLIFIER

The present disclosure generally relates to a high frequency amplifier, a system and a method for setting an operating state of a high frequency amplifier. The high frequency amplifier includes at least a first amplification circuit with a first frequency range, at least one second amplification circuit with a second frequency range, a hybrid coupler circuit with an isolated port, and a termination with at least one switch device. The hybrid coupler circuit is connected to output sides of the first amplification circuit and the second amplification circuit. The termination is connected with the isolated port. The high frequency amplifier has an operating range based on the first amplification circuit and the second amplification circuit. The high frequency amplifier has a load modulation in dependence of the first amplification circuit and the second amplification circuit. A first contact of the at least one switch device is directly coupled to ground.

The power amplifier arrangement comprises a Doherty combiner comprising at least one Ruthroff transformer and configured to combine all the outputs of the power amplifiers to, at an output of the Doherty combiner, produce the output power signal.
