The radio frequency power amplifier comprises multiple stages of amplifier circuits and at least one power detection feedback circuit; the input end of the power detection feedback circuit is connected to the output end of a current stage of amplifier circuit, and the output end of the power detection feedback circuit is connected to the input ends of the current stage of amplifier circuit and at least one stage of amplifier circuit located prior to the current stage of amplifier circuit. The power detection feedback circuit generates, according to the detected output power of the current stage of amplifier circuit, a control voltage varying inversely with the output power, so that the power detection feedback circuit outputs current varying positively with the control voltage.

In an embodiment, a current sensing circuit includes first and second integrated resistors on a semiconductor die, a controllable current source configured to provide a reference current, and a current determination circuit. A resistance value of the second integrated resistor is a factor n larger than a resistance value of the first integrated resistor. A current drawn by a target circuit is configured to flow through the first integrated resistor, and the reference current is configured to flow through the second integrated resistor. The current determination circuit is configured to determine a value of the current drawn by the target circuit based on the value of the reference current when a first voltage at a terminal of the first integrated resistor is approximately equal to a second voltage at a terminal of the second integrated resistor.

Methods and devices for clamping an output of an amplifier stage of an amplifier are presented. According to one aspect, a clamp sense circuit senses a voltage at a node of an internal stage of the amplifier. The clamp sense circuit senses a region of operation of the clamp circuit and correspondingly controls a current limiter that is introduced in the amplifier to limit a current through the internal stage of the amplifier. Limiting the current in turn causes limiting a current path from a clamp circuit through the output of the amplifier stage. According to another aspect, the clamp sense circuit is a replica of the amplifier stage of the amplifier, the output of the amplifier stage coupled to the clamp circuit, and an output of the replica decoupled from the clamp circuit.

The power tracker determines a power tracking signal based on inphase (I) and quadrature (Q) components of a plurality of transmit signals being sent simultaneously. The power supply generator generates a power supply voltage based on the power tracking signal. The apparatus may further include a power amplifier (PA) that amplifies a modulated radio frequency (RF) signal based on the power supply voltage and provides an output RF signal.

A power amplifier module can include a power amplifier including a cascode transistor pair. The cascode transistor pair can include a first transistor and a second transistor. The power amplifier module can include a current comparator configured to compare a first base current of the first transistor and a second base current of the second transistor to obtain a comparison value. The power amplifier module can include a saturation controller configured to supply a reference signal to an impedance matching network based on the comparison value. The impedance matching network can be configured to modify a load impedance of a load line in electrical communication with the power amplifier based at least in part on the reference signal.

The radio frequency power amplifier comprises multiple stages of amplifier circuits and at least one current detection feedback circuit; the input end of the current detection feedback circuit is connected to the input end of a current stage of amplifier circuit among the multiple stages of amplifier circuits by means of a corresponding resistor, and the output end of the current detection feedback circuit is connected to the input end of at least one stage of amplifier circuit prior to the current stage of amplifier circuit. The current detection feedback circuit generates, according to the detected quiescent operating current of the current stage of amplifier circuit, a control voltage varying inversely with the quiescent operating current, so that the current detection feedback circuit outputs current varying positively with the control voltage.

A logarithmic power detector includes a power distributor, a first detection circuit, a second detection circuit and an output circuit. The power distributor is used to generate a first power signal and a second power signal according to an input signal. The first detection circuit is used to attenuate the first power signal to generate a first rectified signal, filter the first rectified signal to generate a first low-pass signal, and amplify the first low-pass signal to generate a first amplification current. The second detection circuit is used to attenuate the second power signal to generate a second rectified signal, filter the second rectified signal to generate a second low-pass signal, and amplify the second low-pass signal to generate a second amplification current. The output circuit is used to receive the first amplification current and the second amplification current to generate a converted voltage related to the input signal.

A system may include a Class-D stage comprising a first high-side switch coupled between a supply voltage and a first output terminal of the Class-D stage, a second high-side switch coupled between the supply voltage and a second output terminal of the Class-D stage, a first low-side switch coupled between a ground voltage and the first output terminal, and a second low-side switch coupled between the ground voltage and the second output terminal. The system may also include current sensing circuitry comprising a sense resistor, such that an output current through a load coupled between the first output terminal and the second output terminal causes a first sense voltage proportional to the output current across the sense resistor. The system may additionally include a modulator for generating a differential pulse-width modulation driving signal to the first high-side switch, the second high-side switch, the first low-side switch, and the second low-side switch and pilot tone injection circuitry configured to inject a periodic pilot tone into the differential pulse-width modulation driving signal at a pilot tone frequency.
