Techniques for enabling interoperability between media playback systems
A device is configured to (i) receive media content from a media source, (ii) generate a first series of frames including first portions of the media content and first playback timing information, (iii) generate a second series of frames including second portions of the media content and second playback timing information, (iv) transmit the first series of frames to a first playback device in a synchrony group for playback of the first portions of the media content in accordance with the first playback timing information, and (v) transmit the second series of frames to a second playback device in the synchrony group for playback of the second portions of the media content in accordance with the second playback timing information such that the media content is played back in synchrony by the synchrony group.
Zone scene activation
In general, techniques of controlling a plurality of multimedia players in groups are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a mechanism is provided to allow a user to group some of the players according to a theme or scene, where each of the players is located in a zone. When the scene is activated, the players in the scene react in a synchronized manner. For example, the players in the scene are all caused to play a multimedia source or music in a playlist, wherein the multimedia source may be located anywhere on a network.

Operation Modes, Audio Layering, and Dedicated Controls for Targeted Audio Experiences
A playback device is configured to: based on a room setting of the playback device, determine that the playback device is associated with a first room of a media playback system; operate in a first mode that is associated with a first user type and a first set of playback control options; determine that the room setting of the playback device has changed; determine that the playback device is no longer associated with the first room and is associated with a second room of the media playback system; transition to operating in a second mode; determine that the playback device is no longer associated with the second room and is associated with the first room; transition to operating in the first mode; receive a playback command; determine that the playback command corresponds to a playback control option within the first set; and execute the playback command.

Processing audio with an audio processing operation
An apparatus or method to allow a user to control an audio processing operation of an internal and/or external microphone(s). The method includes providing a configurable user interface which defines an audio processing operation. The status of the audio processing operation can be defined through interaction with the user interface. Capture of sound with the microphone(s) may be controlled based on the status of the audio processing operation.
Processing audio with a visual representation of an audio source
An apparatus or method to give a user information about, and control of, internal and/or external microphone(s) so that the user can make adjustments to audio recording in real time. The method includes choosing microphones, displaying visual representations of microphones, capturing an acoustic source using a microphone, allowing a user to interact with a visual representation of a microphone to select or deselect the microphone, and processing of the audio signal from the acoustic source captured by a microphone.
Playback Device Group Volume Control
Embodiments are provided for satellite volume control. An example method includes receiving an input at a playback device to adjust a volume for a plurality of playback devices that are grouped for synchronous playback of audio content, wherein the plurality of playback devices includes the playback device. The method also includes sending a first message over a network from the playback device to a device associated with the plurality of playback devices, the first message including information based on the input, wherein the information is used to adjust the volume of the plurality of playback devices. The method also includes receiving a second message at the playback device over the network, the second message including information for the volume of the playback device, wherein the volume is based on the adjusted volume of the plurality of playback devices.

Media Content Based on Operational Data
An example computing system that maintains a playlist of media items for playback by one or more playback devices receives, from a first playback device, a request to play back the playlist and first operational data and also receives, from a second playback device, a request to play back the playlist and second operational data. The computing system provides the media items in the playlist to the first and second playback devices for substantially synchronous playback and, based on the first and second operational data, determines respective first and second advertisements. The computing system provides the first advertisement to the first playback device for playback during a given time slot designated for advertisements, and also provides the second advertisement to the second playback device for playback during the given time slot, such that the second playback device plays the second advertisement while the first playback device plays the first advertisement.
