Dynamic audio headroom management system

In an audio system with a plurality of input signals, the input signals are prioritized from least important to most important. The level of the aggregate of all of the input signals is compared to a threshold level. If the level is greater than the threshold, the levels of one or more of the input signals are reduced one at a time, in order from the least important input signal to the most important input signal.

An amplifier includes an amplifier circuit and a gain adjusting circuit. The amplifier circuit has a design gain and a real gain and is configured to output an output signal according to an input signal and the real gain. The gain adjusting circuit is coupled to the amplifier circuit and is configured to receive the input signal to compare a voltage of the input signal with a first reference voltage, wherein when the voltage of the input signal exceeds the first reference voltage, the gain adjusting circuit increases the real gain of the amplifier circuit, so that the real gain approach the design gain.

Apparatus and methods for radio frequency (RF) signal limiting are provided. In certain embodiments, an RF signal limiting system includes a cascade of a front limiter and a biased limiter. Additionally, the front limiter provides an initial amount of limiting to an RF signal, while the biased limiter serves to further limit the RF signal. The biased limiter is adaptively biased such that the amount of limiting provided to the RF signal increases in response to an increase in the RF signal level. Such an RF signal limiting system can be used in a variety of applications, including protecting an input of a low noise amplifier (LNA).

Ruggedness protection circuit

Various methods and circuital arrangements for protection of an RF amplifier are presented. According to one aspect, the RF amplifier is part of switchable RF paths that include at least one path with one or more attenuators that can be used during normal operation to define different modes of operation of the at least one path. An RF level detector monitors a level of an RF signal during operation of any one of the switchable RF paths and forces the RF signal through the at least one path with one or more attenuators while controlling the attenuators to provide an attenuation of the RF signal according to a desired level of protection at an input and/or output of the RF amplifier.

Open-loop tracking control module to control input range swing for radiation-hardened devices

A circuit includes a tracking control module that receives an input voltage and a dynamic reference voltage. The tracking control module generates a swing-limited output voltage to mitigate over-voltage swings of the input voltage. The tracking control module includes a bias tracker that receives the dynamic reference voltage and generates a reference tracking control signal that tracks voltage changes in the dynamic reference voltage. A swing-limiter receives the reference tracking control signal and the input voltage. The swing-limiter limits the magnitude of the received input voltage based on a threshold and adjusts the swing-limited output voltage in response to the reference tracking control signal.
