Packet prioritization for network-based software-defined radio

Disclosed in some examples are systems, methods, devices, and machine-readable mediums for improved communications between a software-defined radio front-end device and a network-based computing device. Rather than packetize samples together, same bit positions from multiple ADC samples may be packetized together. If a Quality of Service (QoS) metric of the network connection between the RF front-end device and the network-based processing computing drops below a threshold, the RF front-end device may prioritize sending packets with the more significant bits over packets with less significant bits. In other examples, the RF front-end device may prioritize samples corresponding to certain data types over other data types.

A disclosed radio frequency (RF) system, such as a cognitive radar, includes a software defined radio (SDR), an adaptive transmit amplifier, and a host computer. The system performs optimization operations including selecting an initial impedance as a load impedance for the RF device and iteratively performing image completion operations until a convergence criterion is satisfied. The image completion operations may include measuring a performance of the RF device to obtain a measured performance corresponding to the load impedance, storing the measured performance as a point on a measured load-pull contour image, performing a load-pull extrapolation to extrapolate, from the load impedance, a predicted optimal impedance, and saving the predicted impedance as the load impedance for a next iteration of the image completion operations. The convergence criterion may be satisfied when a predicted impedance matches one of the previously measured impedances.

Multiple channel beyond line of sight waveform software-defined radio

A system may include a software-defined radio (SDR) configured to communicate over multiple channels by using a beyond line of sight (BLOS) waveform. The SDR may be configured to transmit encrypted communications over some or all of the multiple channels to a satellite and on to at least one radio access node (RAN). The SDR may be configured to receive encrypted communications over some or all of the multiple channels from the at least one RAN via the satellite. At least one of the multiple channels may use a spreading factor greater than 256. The SDR may be configured to simultaneously transmit and receive encrypted communications over the multiple channels.
