Implant, a method for production thereof and use thereof
An implant, a method for production thereof, and use thereof for growing patients are disclosed, containing a Mg—Zn—Ca-based alloy. In order to meet extremely strict requirements with regard to compatibility, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength, it is proposed that the alloy contain 0.1 to 0.6 wt % zinc (Zn), 0.2 to 0.6 wt % calcium (Ca), and a remainder of magnesium (Mg), as well as impurities that are an inevitable part of the manufacturing process, which each total no more than 0.01 wt % and altogether total at most 0.1 wt %, with the quotient of the percentages by weight of Zn and Ca being less than or equal to 1.
ORTHOPEDIC IMPLANT HAVING A CRYSTALLINE GALLIUM-CONTAINING HYDROXYAPATITE COATING AND METHODS FOR MAKING THE SAME
An orthopedic implant having a metal surface and a hydroxyapatite layer comprising gallium ions therein disposed on at least part of the metal surface is described. The hydroxyapatite layer has an average crystallite size of less than about 75 nm in at least one direction and dissolves for more than 2 hours in vitro. The hydroxyapatite layer is substantially free of carbonate. The coating, which is formed on a sodium titanate surface, has increased shear strength and tensile strength. The coating is formed by a solution deposited hydroxyapatite process under inert conditions. The pH of the solution varies by less than 0.1 pH unit/hour during coating formation.
Patterned Hydrogel Devices and Methods for Neural Regeneration
A matrix for neuron regeneration. The matrix can include a sheet having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, the second surface having a plurality of integrally formed ridges. The sheet can have a spiral shape, such that the first surface of the sheet faces the second surface of the sheet. The sheet and the integrally formed ridges can comprise oligo(poly(ethylene glycol) fumarate).
ORTHOPEDIC IMPLANTS HAVING A SUBSURFACE LEVEL CERAMIC LAYER APPLIED VIA BOMBARDMENT
An orthopedic implant having a subsurface level ceramic layer generally includes a base material, an intermix layer molecularly integrated with the base material that includes a mixture of the base material and a plurality of subsurface level ceramic-based molecules implanted into the base material, and an integrated ceramic surface layer molecularly integrated with and extending from the intermix layer forming at least part of a molecular structure of an outer surface of the orthopedic implant. The integrated ceramic surface layer and the base material thereafter cooperate to sandwich the intermix layer in between.
ABSORBENT ARTICLES INCLUDING HIPE FOAM ENHANCED WITH CLAY NANOPLATELETS, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
Open-cell foam having a structure of interconnected struts formed of polymeric material and defining open cells, resulting from polymerization of a continuous phase of a high internal phase water-in-oil emulsion, the struts comprising the polymeric material with clay nanoparticles at least partially captured therewithin, is disclosed. The clay nanoparticles may be present in combination with a surface modifier. Methods for making the open-cell foam are also disclosed. Absorbent articles including the open cell foam are also disclosed.
Synergistic antibacterial activity of medium polarity oils in combination with antibacterial agents on bacterial biofilms
The compositions of the present invention comprise at least one medium polarity oil and at least one antibacterial agent, the combination of which produces a synergistic antibacterial effect against bacterial biofilms. Methods are disclosed for the reduction of bacteria in and/or elimination of bacterial biofilms on biological and non-biological surfaces, as well as methods for the treatment of wounds, skin lesions, mucous membrane lesions, and other biological surfaces infected or contaminated with bacterial biofilms.
ULTRAHIGH DUCTILITY, NOVEL Mg-Li BASED ALLOYS FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS
The invention relates to compositions including magnesium-lithium alloys containing various alloying elements suitable for medical implant devices. The devices may be constructed of the compositions or have applied thereto a coating formed therefrom. Within the structure of the magnesium-lithium alloy, there is a co-existence of alpha and beta phases. The invention also relates to methods of preparing the magnesium-lithium alloys and articles, such as medical implant devices, for use in medical applications, such as but not limited to, orthopedic, dental, craniofacial and cardiovascular surgery.
